This place is a nightmare. Let me warn you to never take your kids here-this was truly the worst shop experience Iâve ever had. My 11 year old loves vintage and collecting so he was excited to come here with his birthday money. We were âgreetedâ by the older man opening the door and just staring at us. No hello. No welcome. Just staring. As we moved through the store, he followed us around asking if we were going to buy the items we touched. I could tell he thought we might steal something and he was making me so uneasy. I wanted to leave immediately as it was also hot, filthy (rat droppings on the floor) and crammed with overpriced items. He managed to make an already super uncomfortable experience even worse by literally sneering at my son the entire time. After we left, my son asked me âwhy was that man so mad at me?â He was upset as was I, so I decided to see what the other reviews of this place were. Well we werenât alone. There are many other reviews mentioning the old man hovering and being âcreepyâ and the store response is always that âthis âemployeeâ is very friendly and loves a to tell stories,â which is absolutely laughable and insulting to your customers. Heâs not just some employee and heâs incredibly unfriendly and rude. This could have been an opportunity to make a sale and engage the younger generation interested in vintage items, but Iâll only remember it as the grossest, most horrible energy of any store Iâve been in. Amelia visitors and locals -and especially kids, deserve so...

I was greeted by a man who walked outside to say hello. He didnât hover like other reviewers said. We had a nice conversation and I looked around the store. He even helped me with my purchases and walked me down the steps to say thank you for visiting! I found it very kind and endearing - old school southern. Sometimes being kind and having a conversation with a stranger can mean a lot!
I read a few other reviews and was shocked because I had such a genuinely pleasant experience. There was a lot of care taken in organizing and cataloging everything. Everything had a price - there were plastic covers on most of the books. Another reviewer mentioned bringing her kids - being followed and asked if they were going to buy what they picked up. with the amount of inventory and how they have items organized - Iâm certain itâs to keep things in place.
Itâs an old building with window ac units so itâs a little hot .. but you can get in front of a unit to cool off pretty quickly. I went in the summer mid day and saw the ac units - so - I kinda knew what I was going to get into...
Read moreI was visiting Amelia Island with a friend when we stumbled upon House of Collectibles, and I'm so glad we did! My friend knew I was a collector of nostalgic items, so we had to stop by. The shop is packed with all kinds of treasures from the past, especially records and toys from the 70s.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. French, who I believe is either an employee or the owner. He was incredibly helpful and welcoming, always wearing a big smile and making sure that every customer felt valued. His enthusiasm for the store and its items was infectious!
I picked up a few VHS tapes (since my suitcase was a bit limited), but I canât wait to make another trip to this gem. The shop has so many nostalgic items, from books and toys to VHS tapes, records, cassettes, DVDs, and more. Itâs the perfect spot for collectors and anyone who loves old-school hobbies. You could easily spend hours browsing the shelves, discovering items that bring back great memories.
Definitely a must-visit if you're...
