Some of the cheapest prices around. Store hours leave a bit to be desired. Open at 9am. Close at 8pm. Good if you're an employee I guess, but I've been left out in the cold sometimes if I have long day at work and don't get there in time. Staples like milk, bananas, bread, etc. are always pretty cheap compared to other stores. Good choice for a store if you're not into clipping coupons and/or flipping through the weekly sales flyers from other local grocery stores in the area like HyVee or Pick-n-Save. The Aldi brand/label items are normally a great value, but you should generally stay away from other national brands that they carry, like say, Pringles, or M & Ms, etc, as these brands are typically much higher than what you'll pay anywhere else. It took my wife a bit to get on board, but now it's her go-to grocery store. Definitely not a jazzed up store like she's used to. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it's a bit of a pain to get into this place. The traffic flow is a little dicey crossing McKee road, and then you still need to navigate an odd frontage road of sorts to reach the parking lot, which is also a substantial elevation change. Also, as other posters have mentioned, they are often sold out of products that you are expecting to pick up on your stop. For us, it's the plain, unflavored soy milk. It's become the bane of my existence as a father. One of our toddlers has a slew of food allergies, dairy being among them. Aldi's typically has some of the cheapest soy milk in the area, which is great when you need 4-5 containers a week. The majority of the time, the plain flavor is always sold out, which is frustrating. It's also typically stocked on the very bottom shelf of the cooler, in a two variety cardboard box with Vanilla flavored soy in there with it. You basically have to get on your hands and knees are root around on the floor to try and see if there are any more plain soys back behind the empty cardboard cartons at the front of the cooler. It's a bit humiliating. If I were the manager, I'd see a trend of this being a hot item and dedicate more cooler space for this product as it seems like it flies off the shelf. If it was a product for the grown-ups of the household, no big deal. I can work around that, go without or use something else, but the little man needs his sippie cup topped off with that sweet, sweet soy, several half-gallons a week in fact, which involves hitting up another store somewhere else on the way home and making another stop. Don't forget to bring your own reusable grocery bags and a quarter (25 cent piece) to unlock a grocery cart to use...
Read moreVery good prices, no-nonsense service. Selection is "selective"--Aldi frequently picks one brand to feature for particular items, and while the prices are uniformly excellent, if you don't agree with their preference, you might be disappointed.
Aldi is increasing its sections for organic items, including produce, which I find somewhat disappointing. Not interested in paying premium prices for other people's food superstitions. Gimme GMOs and regular agricultural products--I ain't no snowflake! [editorial ends now]
Bring a quarter to get your cart (you get it back when you return the cart to the corral). At the Fitchburg location, the cashiers told me they give a quarter to folks you aren't carrying them, but that might have been the day or the particular cashier.
Summary--great place to stock up on good quality staples, and to get really good deals on a limited variety of premium items. Service is efficient--but don't expect someone to hold your hand throughout your shopping experience. If you need sensitive service and a complete selection of boutique items, go to...
Read moreFavorite Aldi location! we drive here from the Isthmus & it’s well worth it. Great prices, you truly can’t beat them. Great products & they keep new items cycling through the store every couple months which is great. I’m very impressed with meat selection at this location as it’s been a problem at others before. One of the biggest locations closest to Madison & folks seems to follow COVID-19 practices decently well. It’s annoying when people go down the wrong way through the isle because they’re not very large but aside from that it’s decent. Location definitely seems understaffed sometimes & staff frequently looks tired & is running around. & I really don’t like how they just throw your food into the cart during checkout. They’ve actually broken & busted our items before, which is just negligent. Make sure to bring...
