I highly recommend karate at Kicks Unlimited Fitchburg. My son is nine years old, currently on a three year track toward his 2nd degree black belt with an emphasis on teaching karate. He started at age four and achieved his black belt at the relatively young age of eight. I can't emphasize enough how the journey toward black belt, and now the journey beyond, has complemented his overall maturation in life physically, mentally, and emotionally. Karate training at Kicks has propagated characteristics that every parent would want for their child -- focus, discipline, respect, self confidence, self esteem and physical skills. At the karate classes, short talks are given by the instructors to the students on a variety of important attributes on living a good, proper, successful life. For me, these benefits are greater than the art of self defense, which the students definitely learn. The attitudes acquired in karate sessions do carry over into the home and the academic class room. My son has developed a characteristic of always being the first to shoot his hand up when a question is asked by a teacher. I believe the parents also benefit from being present at the karate classes, if not participating, but just observing. The students, and parents as well, develop long standing worthy relationships. The mission and quality of the individual instructors at Kicks is what makes the place. Mr. Huett, founder, Mr. Clary, head instructor, and Mr. Griffey are excellent martial artists, teachers, and communicators. They truly love what they do. We are fortunate to be part of the Kicks community. I highly recommend Kicks Unlimited Fitchburg. Also, there are sister Kicks Unlimited schools in Middleton, lead by Mr. Mbow, and in Sun Prairie, lead...
Read moreMy son wanted to write his own review: I've been attending Kicks Unlimited Fitchburg for six years now, and each year has brought on so much positive change in my life. Empathy, perseverance, kindness, leadership, focus, confidence and the importance of contributing to my community are all important skills that have been emphasized throughout my time participating in this dojo. Not only have I benefited from this experience, but my helpful and supporting classmates have as well. Each class pushes me to be the hardest working version of myself as I can be. The Kicks Unlimited staff can be given lots of credit for my growing strength both physically and mentally. They are compassionate and encouraging, and willing to do whatever it takes to enhance my abilities. For example, the teachers will often stay after class with me to do more than the curriculum requires. They willingly go above and beyond what their jobs ask of them because they genuinely care about each individual. Overall, the past years have been an amazing experience. The teachers and the dojo create an environment that is not only fun but also beneficial to be a...
Read moreThis place has offered our son exactly what we had hoped. I thought martial arts might be a good activity for him, to help with his coordination and concentration. He was interested in trying it. We took advantage of a great introductory special they offer as an opportunity to let kids see if it's a good fit. Of course, he loved it, and we were hooked! I love the life lessons they provide that translate to school and home too--lessons on how to be kind and respectful, how to handle difficult situations, how to be disciplined, how to push yourself to try harder. The physical aspect of it is great. And, they're very focused on each kids' own journey. They also know how to have fun too, and offer a variety of events and activities to bond as a community and have fun outside of class. The vibe completely suits us. Not too hard core, intense or aggressive (no Cobra Kai here! :)) yet very much committed to the principles and discipline of martial arts. A welcoming community. He is so proud every time he's promoted to a new belt. It's...
