This Guitar Center is relatively small, since it serves the Flint area. They do have a good selection of the usual brands, especially at the lower end of the price scale.
I have always had a good experience here. The staff is helpful, though some are more knowledgeable than others. Most of the time, though, they will direct you to someone who can answer your questions.
They offer instruments, amplifiers, accessories, books, and more. The most open area is for electric guitar and amps, but there are also areas for acoustic guitar, drums, keyboards, and PA systems.
I have not purchased an instrument, but I have gotten an amp, strings, guitar pedals, and accessories. I have had my guitars setup by the guitar tech Jacob, and he installed new pickups on one of my guitars. He does great work, and the cost is set by GC policy.
This location is in a strip mall, and is set back quite a ways from the main road (Miller rd.) There is very good signage, and it is easy to find. the parking lot has some spaces closest to the store reserved for Guitar Center customers, so you can always park close to the entrance.
All in all, it is a pretty good place. I've been to music shops that I like much better, but most of the time it's not worth an hour drive. If you want to go someplace thaf has a 1959 Les Paul that you can take down and play, you're probably not shopping in Flint. If you want a beginner guitar or drum set, maybe even upgrade to something you could use for a church band or weekend gigs, this store can set you up with the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIn late July, I came in to purchase equipment for hosting music trivia events. Chris was very helpful in answering my questions and getting me the equipment I asked for. Once I got home, I realized the 15" speaker I got was bigger than what I needed. The mixer I bought wasn't getting any power, despite me plugging it in to different outlets. I returned the items the next day and Kale worked with me. He took the new mixer out of the box and connected it to make sure there was power. We also tested the 10" speaker and the mixer with my laptop, which I brought from home. Since they didn't have any 10" speaker bags, Kale brought out a 12" bag and let me try it out for size. Although it obviously had extra room, he said it could work in the short term to protect the speaker until the right size bag was available. Kale was there when I picked up the 10" bag yesterday and exchanged it for the 12" one. The pickup and return went smoothly. All 3 of my visits to the store have been positive ones. If I need to purchase more audio equipment, I can definitely see myself going back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy previous experience at Guitar Center was purchasing a pair of headphones. Got them home and they stunk (literally, they smelled bad) and had one of the drivers already going out. Ended up with some other persons return, repackaged, I am guessing.
Today (Friday, 10/28/2022 @ 3:30pm) I got off of work and went to their store on Miller Rd., Flint, MI. I was looking for a new Piano. A manager was talking with an employee about moving inventory or something. The store was fairly empty. I am not greeted, asked if I needed help, or acknowledged in any way by any employee. They both disappeared from the section in fact, with zero interaction. I got fed up and left their store. The guy at the counter near the exit did not say goodbye or acknowledge me either. Just stood by idly.
Now, I have come to expect this lack of service from the Flint area. It's Flint after all. However... I also remember service such as this and thank the heavens for online shopping. My next $1,000.00+ purchase will be from Sweetwater, and I do not plan on ever setting foot in Guitar...
