DICK'S Sporting Goods — Local services in Florence

As a college freshman and new athlete, I needed quality shoes for training. I visited Dick’s in Florence expecting help but instead faced a frustrating experience. I had to request shoes through a tablet, which was confusing, especially since I wasn’t sure what would work best for my sport.

When the shoes were finally brought out—oddly left in the kids’ section—I tried them on and found them uncomfortable. I asked an associate for guidance, but she insisted the shoes were fine. When I explained I had high arches and a past injury, she dismissed me, claimed I had flat feet, and walked off mid-conversation. Later, she brought another pair—comfortable, but all white—and I asked about other color options and student discounts. She told me no discounts were offered and handed me a credit card pamphlet instead, which felt presumptive and insulting. Then, she informed me the shoes would have to be ordered anyway. That was the last straw—I left empty-handed, frustrated and ignored.

Thankfully, my partner suggested we stop by Hibbett Sports in Russellville. There, the experience was completely different: the associate brought multiple options, helped me find the perfect fit, and even entertained my toddler while I shopped. I got the support I needed—literally and figuratively.

I came in looking for a certain brand of shoes I always get and the sweetest lady came up to help me .. I explained to her I am a diabetic nurse with long hours on my feet. I wear the same shoes everyday between work, walking, running, gym etc. Well, Miss Doris was like no baby you need these shoes right here and showed me a pair of Oasis Orthopedic shoes. I thought well I’ll try them on what could it hurt and WOW!! 😮 I had chills that is how wonderful these shoes feel! She took time to look at my feet to say I had a low arch and which one is better for my feet. This lady needs a raise! I am loving my shoes! 🥰 I just want everyone to know she knows what she is talking about. Her personality shines! She absolutely made my day and I will be seeing her the next time I buy a pair of shoes. Stopped by here 6/17/25 to purchase a water bottle l saw on the website. I didn't find the bottle so while I was already there I browsed the women shoes. They didn't have my size in the New Balance I wanted to purchase- as usual. I got in line - at the only open register- to ask about the bottle. Well the cashier herself is holding the line up trying to force the older gentlemen to get a credit card - after he has said NO. She literally scanned his items and started trying to force the card on him instead of letting him pay and leave. As I walked out of the line she yells out, HAVE A GOOD DAY MA'AM, as if she intentionally was going slow and holding up the line. Crazy thing is I have a DSG credit card.
