Edit (07/27/2025): Spoke with the gm, and she is lovely and apologized for the whole situation. Leaving this here though as an account of the situation.
I went to sell books but had 2 huge totes in my trunk. Realizing this was a huge sell order i went in first to check with the staff on the process to make sure it hadn't changed. I waited patiently at the sell counter while the gal taking the books was with someone else. When my turn came, I started walking up, my own customer service smile on my face, and began explaining my situation. I was cut off 4 words in, being asked if i was picking up an offer. I replied no, and tried to restart my situation. She cut me off again after I said no and curtly said, "3 totes". I asked for clarification, if the 3 totes was more of a short on time thing since i didn't have anywhere to be today or tomorrow, or if it was something else. She practically yelled at me, "its busy and I don't want you taking up all of my time. Just take 2 totes." I nodded, took 2 totes and a cart, and went to load them up and breathe since I felt like i had personally offended this person. Once loaded, I came back, waited in line again, and was fully prepared to apologize for any misunderstanding, I just didn't want to waste either of our time. My turn came, put my 2 totes on the counter and went to grab my ID, while trying to quickly get my apology out. I was again cut off, asking for my email and phone number with no acknowledgement of my attempt at an apology. I quickly gave all the info she asked for and confirmed the 2 pieces of paperwork i needed to fill out while she looked over the books. Once she was done, she moved the 2 totes to the ground and motioned to a stack of about 15 books and says, "rejected". I would love to say that was it, but then i stacked the books up and realized that I was going to have a problem getting those books back to the car while i also had a water bottle. The gal sat there staring at me as i was trying to figure out the best way to juggle these, when she practically seethes at me, "Move, i can't help the next person while you're there" Luckily the next customer took pity on me and mentioned that there were some boxes by the door and gave me a small smile when I thanked her. I am DEEPLY regretting taking my books there and the years I've spent shopping here because of this experience. I know I'm only a drop in a big pond but take my advice: DO...
Read moreThis place is okay, the first time I visited I almost bought out their new age section ;) They do have great items, I enjoy the tarot, the clothing, the self help section ( I need a lot of help supposedly). I could browse in here for hours, and have. Recently they switched things around and it seems the store is being taken over by manga. It also seems like the children's section is getting bigger as well. They have a huge selection of journals and notebooks, phone accessories, gaming console things, and video games. The last few times I have visited I started to get the vibe that the store was less a bookstore and turning more into some sort of BuyBackGames/toy store. IDK if that's what the plan is, or if they are gearing up for winter/holiday season. As for the staff, that is a topic I have constantly been let down by. Almost every time I go there, no one greets me. If they do, its a forced hello (sorry to interrupt your conversation yo) followed by a judgmental once over. Even the manager I met last winter was snobby and not inviting one bit, I wasn't doing anything wrong, I was signing up for their promotional magazine dealio for dogs sake. This business tries to encourage an open, non judging atmosphere, and that seems to be the case, if you work there. They seem to be having a great time back there behind the counter doing whatever it is they are doing. Its a closed off enviromment to any customer in my opinion, which is solely based off my experiences there. I've shopped there about 7-8 times now, and sadly this is the most consistent thing about the place. Today was my first time selling books here, I brought about 5 books, all different in age/topic, the newest being published in the last 2 years @ $25. For all 5 books I got $2.00. No one explained to me the pricing system, and the person checking me out seemed extremely pained like they could think of a million other things to do with the $2.00, but only with the other people behind the counter. If it wasn't for the great selection of used/new books in topics that greatly interest me they would get 1 star. I haven't been to any other 2nd & Charles store, but I am extremely interested in going to...
Read moreWhen the store opened, it had amazing selection paired with great prices and wonderful staff. Unfortunately as the months go on, the glaring problems with the store continue to grow more obvious. First off, The store opened with troves of clearance items but according to the store, corporate mandated a new system for clearance items that has a strict rule about what stuff is marked down. As a result, the store continues to increase prices on merchandise that was once on clearance for a fraction of the current price. They have so much duplicate merchandise that is never discounted or listed for a logical price. Second off, the buy back system for the store is beyond laughable and one of the biggest rip offs around. You can bring in 100’s of cds and dvds in excellent condition and receive even less than a pawn shop would offer you for buying the same stuff. Bizarre bizarre is a much better alternative store if your looking to sell books, CDs or blu rays. Third of all, the staff in the store started out beyond incredible and kind. Sadly, many started getting annoyed, catty, mean and displayed no sense of costumer loyalty. I’ve probably spent over $500 at this store since they opened and some of the staff members have followed me around the store, confronted me about re-arranging CDs as if I’m a disturbance or harm to their store. The staff has just shown a lot of hostility, immaturity and left me with a taste in my mouth bad enough to keep me from shopping there. This store is an excellent idea, but the execution is slowly starting to fall apart and many of the stores problems overshadow the...
