We called before arriving at The Standard to see if they could seat 3 people for dinner. They said yes so we drove over. Got there just after 7pm. When we got there we were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. A few minutes later our meal order was taken. We then proceeded to sit and wait over 30 minutes for our drink order. The waitress kept coming by our table and telling us it would be just a minute more. Finally, after 30 minutes two of us received the margaritas we had ordered. Our 3rd guest had ordered a simple Scotch neat- literally the easiest drink in the world to pour- and we waited and waited. Finally I got up and went to the bar to ask where the Scotch was. It was sitting at the bar. When I told the bartender that we had been waiting over 30 minutes for the Scotch her comment was “well I poured it- thats your servers issue”. I was stunned. I picked up the drink and told her “well then you need to talk to your server.” When I got to the table our food was coming out before we had even had a chance to enjoy our drinks. A minute later the bartender showed up at our table and very nastily told me she was comping our drinks and meal and that I was rude because I had inadvertently picked up the ticket under the drink. Wow! Really?! We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks to be served and I had to go up and get the 3rd one from the bar and I’m rude?! Her excuse for the poor service was that they were short handed and only had two servers. Then why tell us when we called beforehand that you could seat 3 people immediately? Seems to me if you only have 2 servers working you would stop seating people when you reached your capacity to serve them properly. Bottomline horrible rude nasty aggressive service and a lousy meal. The bartender has no business behind a bar serving customers. We won’t be back. Do yourself a favor and scroll down through the rest of the reviews. This isn’t an...
Read moreI don't usually do negative reviews but maybe it will help management to improve things. Our kids gave us a gift certificate for Christmas and we were looking forward to a nice Sunday brunch. Basically, I was underwhelmed. To start with, they advertise "Bottomless Bloody Mary's and Mimosas for only $20". Well a single one is $10, so unless you intend to hang out all day and drink yourself silly having more than 2 drinks, I fail to see the advantage other than getting most customers to spend $20 each on drinks. We were seated promptly but it took a long time for our waiter to appear and then very long time for him to get our drinks and coffee even thought they were not very busy. Never told us anything about the specials. I ordered a mimosa and a cup of coffee. Had to ask twice for the coffee. He never came back to refill the coffee, I had to ask another waiter for a refill. CARDINAL RULE for breakfast or brunch. Serve the damn coffee right away, then keep the refills coming. I ordered the Radio City Skillet. I asked the waiter what it came with and he said just toast, so I ordered a side of "home fries". He failed to tell me that the skillet came packed with "home fries" under my eggs. HMMM..., so I sent the "home fries" back. The home fires were not "fresh made" either. They were basically reheated frozen potato puffs, I could have purchased in the frozen food section at Publix. Terrible for a downtown restaurant that supposedly specializes in weekend brunch. Honestly, the Skillet Breakfast at First Watch is much better for less $$. My wife had the Cali omelet with fruit and she (being much easier to please than me) liked it. Anyway, if you intend to spend $100 (including tip) for a Sunday Brunch, you can do better going...
Read moreThere are a lot of 'okay' brunch places in the SWFL area, but this place is definitely one of the best I've frequented. I'd seen a lot of reviews pop up for The Standard on Yelp and decided that it would be the perfect place to take my mom for Mother's Day -- Please note that the endless mimosas definitely played a big factor. I love me some bubbles.
The Standard is actually quite small, but it packs in a lot of charm. All of the staff were attentive and happy to help us. For food, my mother ordered the Southwest Omelette, my father ordered the Lox of Love sandwich, and I ordered the Warm Crab Dip. It took a while to get our food, but it was EXTREMELY busy that morning for Mother's Day. Thankfully, the mimosas were never-ending and overflowing!
Once we received our food, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that everything was delicious! (And no, that wasn't the mimosas talking...) The portions were large, and the home fries were perfectly crispy. Thankfully my mother is okay with sharing...because my father didn't share any of his with me. It's been a long time since I've ordered crab dip at a restaurant because typically it lacks enough crab for my taste. The Standard certainly didn't hold back on the amount of crab they put in the dip--it was awesome! I only wish I had more bread...I did end up taking the rest back home with me.
I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat! I'm anxious to go back and try their Lunch and Dinner menus.
If you are making reservations, make sure you denote whether you want an inside or outside table!!! The person who took my reservation never asked me that, and we almost had to sit at an...
