I was there for knee replacement surgery, This was on Wednesday march 12th.. The doctor had to make some adjustments during surgery and I had to stay overnight.. I was on the 3rd floor in room 3202..
I arrived in my room just as the shift was changing so they introduced themselves.. this was around 1730-1800.. so around 2230 my wife left the room to look for a nurse… she had hit the nurse button for hours but no one ever showed up so she Left looking for someone to come give my pain medicine, someone to hook up The ice compressor for my knee, and too hook up the blood clot machine to both of of my legs..
I had gotten to the room around 1800 and over four hours later not one single nurse had come to care for me as a patient.. I was straight out of surgery and in a lot of pain..
So my wife (Jenny hill) left the room around 2230 in search of anyone to help her husband situation.. As she got closer to the nurse desk the nurse name Jan was in some room and she rushed out the room and confronted my wife in hallway very aggressively and talked to her in anger.. She verbally assaulted my wife, she was unprofessional, and made my wife feel Not safe at that hospital.. she directed that if no one has answered the call button than there is a reason and to go back to room..
So around 2330 my wife leaves the room in search of anyone to help me.. I had been it room for over five hours and one has been to the room and checked on me, give pain medication, nor hook up machine to my knees or calves for blood clots….So as my wife got closer to the nursing station Jan once again come out the too and verbally attack my wife.. this is all on video the head nurse that night Maria was there during this attack, also the nurse name Hakeem was there and had to grab the Nurse named Jan because she slapped a water bottle in my wife face as she also posed a physical threat to my wife.. So The nurse named Hakeem had to grabbed The nurse named Jan from attacking my wife.. During this time my wife told Maria that we don’t want Jan caring for me..
We didn’t feel safe at that hospital, so Jan screamed saying yes yes yes please get another nurse, so Maria assured my wife to assign another nurse, So around 0030 A nurse from another floor name Joseph Came in and wrote his name on board and left.. so around 0126 I got dressed and my wife and myself was in hallway leaving because we didn’t feel safe, then Maria and Joseph saw us and talked to us about the attacks Jan made on my wife..
We agreed to stay if they make efforts to care for me, give my pain meds, and hook up machine.. I finally got treatment that night at around 0200.. my experience there was horrible and life threatening.. I feel strongly my wife was racially assaulted and attacked.. I was mistreated as a patient of the hospital.. before discharge We was able to talk to the social worker, The nurse manager and the nurse advocate.
This treatment at this hospital and staff is out of hand, unprofessional, and will not be tolerated.. We expect something major to happen.. patient safety is...
Read moreIf I can help it this past ER visit will be the last time I'll ever go to MCFW. I should have listened to that inner voice telling me to stay away!! This is twice, back to back that I have been disrespected, treated horribly and lied about. There is a very good and well deserved reason MCFW and MCA have the notorious reputation they do. I spent months at MCA which only got worse as time wore on. After 7 months and 4 major hip surgeries I am left with a leg that has NO HIP. There is nothing in the joint space except infection and excess fluid. The last time I was there I was treated SO BAD by the "case manager" who accused me of things I supposedly did while in FW and after I went home. When I tried to get clarification as to what she was referring to she told me not to speak to her and that I knew exactly what she was talking about, but I didn't!! She TOLD the DOCTOR that I was to be discharged. I tried explaining that my son was working until midnight so when I asked why I couldn't go home in the morning the CM looked at me and said, NO! You are going home tonight! I don't care how late it is! When I said in the 18 years I was a nurse l had never seen a doctor take orders from a case manager. I had waited all night and into the next afternoon for a room upstairs just to be told by two nurses on the floor with the WORST attitudes with no clue what bedside manner is that I was being discharged. I asked to speak to the doctor at that point. She came in and said the same thing and refused to medicate me for pain appropriately. Repeatedly I tried telling her how bad I felt, my symptoms, etc. It didn't make a bit of difference and everything I said was completely disregarded. Fast forward two days later when I received a phone call from the doctor, herself. She stated she was calling to see how I was feeling and Oh, by the way you have a pretty nasty UTI due to a Klebsiella infection. I really wanted to go off on her and say how hatefully they treated me and I was right. Just like I tried to tell them that I was sick but they did not care one bit!! Because of their unprofessional, irresponsible and judgemental behavior I have spent almost a month in another hospital on constant IV antibiotics. Sure sounds like borderline malpractice to me. I've told and will continue to tell everyone who'll listen to go to any other hospital!! EDIT: So after I posted this first part a few hours ago I began reading the other reviews. What's truly pathetic and lazy is how every response from administration is EXACTLY the same to every person!! Wondering how much they are paying the person to copy and paste the responses?? Talk about lazy. As for the suggestion to call a patient advocate, don't bother. It will be a complete waste of your time. They act interested part of the time and the other they are making excuses for the staff. No matter how much you tell them absolutely nothing will come of it. To be honest, you'll be lucky to even get...
Read moreThe staff on the most part were professional and knowledgeable. There were some miscommunications with physician orders related to medications and dressing changes. Some agency nurses display a different commitment in their work. During the time I was confined to the bed the nursing techs were friendly and helpful. My bed controls only worked if I used the outside controls on the bed rail. Discharge orders came 1-2 hours after the physician visited at the bedside. Vital signs were taken at 1:30 and 4:30 am, very disruptive for quality sleep. Bathroom toilet gave very little privacy, especially when staff did not wait for a response if they knocked before coming in. Dietary overall was tasty and the fruit salad was fresh and filling. Parking is a real challenge and it’s best to use Valet which is covered by the hospital.
I came into the ER with angina and I was surprised by the staff and how nonchalant they were and that some of their equipment was not charged and ready for use. Once in a treatment room, the nurses were professional and kept me abreast of my tests and room availability in the hospital. After spending six hours in an ED room I was given a bed on the sixth floor, renal transplant floor.
The staff there were friendly, supportive and professional during my stay, however, more leadership from nurses is needed to ensure loud talking and laughing is not at a volume to disturb patients.
It’s always puzzling that whether you are there one day or four, you have to ask for washcloths and towels if you want to wash up.
Staff need to keep comments about staffing challenges to themselves, outside of patient hearing, as it gives a feeling that maybe your needs may not be met.
Even though I was told in the ED that my specific nutritional needs would be met, it was a challenge to receive the correct meal for a couple of days while on the sixth floor.
I really appreciated the staff that showed a happy demeanor and went the extra mile and anticipated my needs.
The medical team made me feel important and I felt I was receiving structured, coordinated care.
My Discharge was dependent on who could find a wheelchair to wheel me out. There needs to be a system the staff could call into to effectively manage where and how many wheelchairs are available.
Thank you for the hard work of all the staff, I’ve been in your nursing shoes and know how difficult it can be.
The road to success depends on what you do on the paths of...
