Let me start off by saying I really wanted to give this place a chance. Coming from the west coast, I am used to comic book stores that are friendly, have great service, and a great selection. However, at Lange's this is not the case. I see reviews of google stating they are a "great shop" I really don't see how. When you enter the store you are bombarded by the pungent odor of the bearded employee and of old unkempt comics. The store is mostly filled with tee shirts that are organized by what fandom they represent, only problem is good luck trying to find a 2xl. I'm a tall guy at 6'5, so most shirt styles have to be larger for the length. I asked the bearded clerk if he could order me a few shirts to which he rudely responded "No, what we have on the racks is what we have." Which is rather surprising since the shirts come from companies such as We Love Fine and other pop culture apparel stores. Onto to the anemic comic book selection. I'm an avid comic/ anime/ graphic novel and am not afraid to drop upwards of $50 a month on on my hobby if a shop has the selection I'm looking for. There were using their rack space for older graphics novels and some that have been out for ten plus years, usually not what you broadcast to people looking for newer stuff. Add to the fact that their new comic selection is less than 20 titles and are pretty limited to the walking dead and marvel. I have never seen such a limited selection of comic books outside of a gas station. Onto the staff, the first time I was there it was just the bearded man, I'm guessing he is the manager or something. He was rather discourteous and lacked knowledge on comics or current pop culture events is the deadpool test footage or major current comic book storylines. It was like I was doing him a disservice by being there. I don't know about how comic shops out here are run but usually the manager is someone who knows about the fandom's his store represents. The second time I was there it was much of the same, I like to give second chances just in case the previous time was a fluke, and the other employee from what I gather was his niece seemed like she didn't want to be there and seemed like she knew very little about the store as well, shocker, I I know. I asked about them possibly starting a dnd campaign which usually stores have at least one campaign going at any given time but was met with sarcasm and more rudeness. I realize its a locally owned business which is great but since they are the only comic shop near Muskegon, one is forced to go there. I also understand that comics and geek culture while starting to appear more in the mainstream is still pretty niche. I hope the owner purges the system and starts over with more titles, and better employees that actually know about the products they sell. It has potential with a great location but the rude staff, lack of an actual comic shop feel and slim pickings makes the experience a terrible one. I will not be returning and I will be telling everyone I know to skip this place and just drive the 40 min to grand rapids for their shops or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was hoping to buy my monthly comics from Langes, instead of paying extra in S&H to online sources for them. The people at Langes said they could order my comics and each month I could come in and buy them all from them, even though they aren't comics ordered in bulk to sell. I also ordered comics through them that had already been released and I just didn't have them yet, they said for sure they could get them in. The first time I went in to buy them, the guy said they just hadn't arrived yet. I checked back three more times, and he said they weren't there. I checked every two to three weeks so it isn't like I was pestering them too often either. The fourth time I went in, not only were my comics (which were now two months overdue) NOT THERE, they had no record of me AT ALL and no record that they had ordered ANY of the comics they had CLAIMED to order for me. To make matters worse, there was not even an apology for wasting all my time either!! All the times I drove out there, I'm sure are the equivalent of the S&H from my RELIABLE online distributor. In other words I didn't save a single dang DIME trying to do business with a local company. Langes are useless. I will NEVER shop there again; I may pay extra for S&H from my online distributor but I actually RECEIVE the comics I order from them-- in a timely, polite manner...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice store I do a lot of buying of MTG cards. Staff varies sometimes bad sometimes great. The guy with beard is always helpful and personable when I go there and he is working. Single card prices are ok but they do not update prices often. I see 2 or 3 of the same cards in the display case and differnt prices. I would understand if the quality was differnt in cards but I personally looked and inspected cards and they were same in quality but still had differnt prices on them. There booster boxes on the other hand are WAY over priced. Example Iconic Masters booster box has gone way down in price. You can buy online at around $150 but they will not budge on there $200 price point. I get they buy at whole sale and need to make money but your driving customers away with not being competitive in a lot of there prices. Overall I will continue to shop there for the most part its a great store with awesome selection. I'm not trying to hate on the store because I do like it but I'm Just giving honset input. Will continue to shop there and hope they take reviews to heart.
P.S. No one stinks or smells bad there lol. I read most reviews and I'm guessing someone was just really upset and wanted to throw insults...
