I wanted to give 2 stars because of the nurses, they are exceptional and kind, however the rest of my experience overshadowed that. I am still steaming about the whole situation today! Around 2:00 yesterday I was sent to the ER, by my doctor, for chest pains. I spent 8 hours there and it was a joke. I actually got seen fairly quick for my original assessment, but after that it was a horrible. There were about 10-15 people ahead of me, I wanted no special treatment, but I saw them and many more, who had come in after me, leave before me. Within about 3 1/2 hours I had 2 EKGs, 2 blood tests, and a chest x-ray, and was told that they were waiting for a room to be cleaned, so I could be examined by a doctor, and it wouldn't be much longer. I informed them that my pain was getting worse, after another 1/2 hour the pain was continuing to get worse, so I inquired again. Ten minutes later I was brought in back to my "bed," a bed shoved in the corner of a hallway surrounded by 1 empty room, one person throwing up and another hacking. Soon the empty room was given to someone else who was suffering from dehydration and weakness. The other patients around me were seen by a doctor, while I was seen by a very curt and unfriendly nurse practitioner, the only "dr." I ever saw. I was having severe chest pains! I was finally given some pain meds(2 hours after being in back) and an order to have a CT scan. From what we could see there were 2 more empty rooms, and 3 more on the way to the bathroom. I finally asked the nurse about a room due to the hacking, throwing up, crying, screaming and moaning going on around us. The nurse said that she would definitely look into it. I then got taken for my CT scan, brought back to my bed in the corner. I then had an allergic reaction to the CT contrast and went looking for a nurse, this took about 5 minutes. As seen as she saw me I was whisked into a room, 2 doors down from my bed, vacant for about 1 1/2 hours, by her and another nurse. They got that under control very quickly and within about an hour I was discharged. What was wrong with me, I still have no idea because my diagnosis was, "during your hospital stay, a radiology test revealed an unexpected finding," that's it, no other explanation. WTF does that mean!!?? So after 8 hours I had no actual diagnosis, and was sent home!! Just an FYI, my sister and I were never once rude or nasty to any of the staff or lost our cool. Like I said earlier, they were all very nice and tried to help as best that they could. There needs to be a thorough look at the way this place is run. If there is anyplace closer I recommend going there. I honestly feel that if I had been there alone, and had passed out or had a real heart attack, it would have taken them quite a bit of time to find me back in my...
Read moreI was in the ER Mid-February 2020 with stomach issues, I was sent from immediate care with a note for a immediate CAT scan, the immediate care also called the ER and informed them of my arrival to expedite the process as they were concern about some intestinal issues. I arrived at the ER and handed them the note and informed them of call from the immediate care, they did not seem to concerned about this. I explained to the registering nurse the issues and then I began the 1.5-2 hour wait. I understand the ER has limited resources and there are priority situations, but when you go to immediate care to try and stay out of the ER, and they get you rushed over to the ER with notes and phone calls, you would think there would be a little more urgency. I was brought over to side area for vitals, and asked my symptoms again which I explained again. Back over to the waiting area, finally I was brought back to the ER area; Where fluids and vitals were taken, and ask for a 3rd time of my symptoms. I was brought to a room and placed in a bed. When a nurse arrived I was asked about my symptoms again (thats 4). I was given fluids and got CAT scan scheduled and asked about my symptoms for 5th time. Got back to the room after the CAT scan waiting for results, I nurse came in with more fluids asked about my symptoms for a 7th time, decided to let the first bag finish off, and left the bag in the sink in the room. Some random Doctor came in asked about my symptoms that is 8, and then just left do not know what he was doing, but that was pointless. Another nurse came with fluids, but saw the bag in the sink and said never mind, and just left. After about 6 hours I was discharged with no real diagnosis and a random IV bag of fluids sitting in the sink for 3 hours. If anything ever happens to me again including severe puncture wounds and lacerations I think I will do it myself, cause I may not make it out alive going to Northwestern Hospital. I had a bill for $300 per my insurance agreements. If you look at my review for Central Dupage Hospital I was in a fight over a $30,000 bill with northwestern about one month after my visit. I did not pay my bill for the ER until all issues were resolved from the previous bill this is according to both my insurance company and Northwestern, so I waited. Everything was eventually settled between the hospital and Northwestern for the $30,000, about 2-3 weeks ago, which is when I got my updated bill of $300 due on 8/9/2020. I got two collection calls back to back 5 minutes apart one to my cell and one to my place of WORK!!!! The bill was not even due yet!!!!! Northwestern said collections after me BEFORE THE BILL WAS DUE. Shame on you...
Read moreI took my mother into the ED for severe abdominal pain and was greeted by the front desk check. The front desk service was fast and professional. My mother was called in by a dark hair nurse who was extremely rude and dismissive when I tried to explain to her what was going on as my mother did not speak English, and there was a language barrier. There was no interpreter service provided. The triage nurse also failed to introduce herself. One would think these Delnor Magnet Hospital nurses were educated on the proper introduction of names to patients, but I was wrong. No introduction by the triage nursing staff was provided.
After a 2 hour wait in the waiting room, my mother was brought back to a room in the ED, where she waited another 2 hours for Toradol for pain. This was unacceptable; there were many delays in patient care in the ED. Mainly with the nursing staff. Not medicating a patient promptly prolongs the pain, making the experience more unpleasant than it needed to be. This was avoidable. It took about 5 hours from the time we set foot in the ER to admission! That's insanely long! The waiting room was not that busy, and I've seen more jam-packed waiting rooms at other ED locations. So much for the magnet status, which means nothing here.
My mother was admitted to Med/Surg floor; most of the nurses on the Med/Surg floor were great except on discharge day. DAY 1 POST OP/DISCHARGE DAY: My mother was a POST OP LAP CHOLE patient, and no one got her up out of bed walking or for meals. It was 11:00 in the morning, and I being her daughter, had to be the one to get her up out of bed, take her to the bathroom, all the nursing duties but with no pay. I put on the call light at 10 am so that the bed alarm could be turned off so that I could help my mother to the bathroom; not a single nursing staff came in for one hour to turn off the call light as my mother held her urine for over 1 hour on day one post-op. This is just unacceptable.
The surgeon that performed my mother's surgery was Dr. Woodard. He is very personable and a good surgeon. He took his time to explain the procedure, which was very much appreciated—being an ER nurse with some medical background. Surgery is not my expertise, and I like things explained to me.
Dr. Woodard was the only good thing from this visit to Delnor. Post Op follow-up appointment seemed a little rushed, but I recommend Dr. Woodard general surgery. He did an excellent job removing my mother's gallbladder. Thank you! For taking care of my mother.
I would have given this a 4 star only because of Dr. Woordard, but the 1 star is for the whole...
