We are locals here in Harlingen and had NO IDEA this little gem was right in front of us the whole time. We learned so much of not only what’s going on around us but the whole state of Texas!Here is a perfect place to plan a day trip or a trip up north! There are maps, flowers and magazines to take with you. The docent that works there has SO much knowledge ! I HIGHLY recommend visiting out visitors center. There is so much to do and so much to learn. You can even bring a picnics lunch and eat outside under the star...

A well organized visitor center just at the side of the main freeway to Harlingen. The silver topped lady was very friendly. She still worked on the day of Christmas Eve. She had given me a good introduction to South TX, the history, geology...Opened my eyes to the beauty of soul of the deep South TX. Her introduction made my trip more meaningful, more pleasant. Everything IS bigger in Texas! This welcome center/ tourist information center is much more than that and one which I was not expecting. This place is more of a zen garden, with beautiful water features and rolling water fall. This is such a peaceful place in the midst of all the chaos!
