Orchid Land Surfshop — Local services in Hawaii

First rate surf shop run by an actual surfer who shapes boards. I have visited OLS a few times over the years and always enjoyed talking to the owner, who is a nice guy with great stories to tell. I asked about the signed Eddie Aikau poster and got to hear a great story about Eddie, who the owner met in the 1970s.

When you’re in Hilo it’s worth a stop at OLS ... I bet you will enjoy it as much as I do.

I was visiting from another island and bought a wooden outrigger paddle for regatta season coming up. A week later when I used it for the first time at practice it broke within a 2 dozen strokes of using it. I called the owner, told him what happened, and he refunded me the money and asked that I send the paddle back to his shop so the guy that makes them can find out what happened. Paddle or not, owner stood by his products and gave me a refund even though I couldn’t return it in person and had issues with it. I would do business with him again based on his character and commitment...

I've been in literally every surf shop from North Carolina to Seattle over the years. I've also been to pretty much every surf shop on the Big Island. Orchid Land, and owner Stan are my favorite.
