First rate surf shop run by an actual surfer who shapes boards. I have visited OLS a few times over the years and always enjoyed talking to the owner, who is a nice guy with great stories to tell. I asked about the signed Eddie Aikau poster and got to hear a great story about Eddie, who the owner met in the 1970s.
When you’re in Hilo it’s worth a stop at OLS ... I bet you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Read moreI was visiting from another island and bought a wooden outrigger paddle for regatta season coming up. A week later when I used it for the first time at practice it broke within a 2 dozen strokes of using it. I called the owner, told him what happened, and he refunded me the money and asked that I send the paddle back to his shop so the guy that makes them can find out what happened. Paddle or not, owner stood by his products and gave me a refund even though I couldn’t return it in person and had issues with it.
