Vallarta Supermarkets — Local services in Hemet

Hubs and I discovered Vallarta Supermarkets only 2 months ago, but they seem to be well-established in town. Posting for National Beer Lovers Day on September 7, their cool palm tree signage for the store, beers signs for sale, and cute display next to the Sayulita Tap Roon 🌴🍺⛱

The general grocery prices don't necessarily compare to surrounding supermarkets, but it's the items in these depts that we really appreciate having available:

The Tortilleria for made-fresh-daily tortilla chips, in bulk @$3.99/lb, we regular buy $10-12 bags. They have mini corn or a variety of sizes in flour tortillas, as well as a blend of corn/flour.

The Fruteria, with made-your-way guacamole, and made to order standard or premium fresh fruit! 🥑🍉🍍🍓 I'm unsure of this dept's hours, as we haven't gotten there in time to try choosing our own ingredients, but this option means there is always a great selection of fresh ready-to-go guac for those restaurant-style tortilla chips 😋 We recently tried a ready-to-go premium fruit platter, and the strawberries and kiwis were a nice addition to the standard.

La Cocina/ La Isla. Similarly, I'm unsure of La Isla's hours, but we've been able to order both fresh and ready-to-go aguas frescas, and signature juices at La Cocina 🍉🥭

The Panaderia. End of July we found this 36 count of Ranch Rolls for $6 - what a deal and so convenient! But we haven't found them since so we don't know if they just sell out quickly 🤔

In addition to fresh fruit and guac, they have fresh salsas, tamales, rice, and beans on the ready. As vegetarians we are unable to try the tamales or refried beans due to the potential use of lard, but the Mexican style rice is made with Tomato puree, and they also offer Frijoles de la olla. I won’t be shopping at this store anytime soon! I initially stopped by just to check it out—curious, not intending to buy anything, not even a pineapple. But when I saw a sign for $1.49 (I didn’t notice it was per pound), I decided to grab one on my way out.

Normally, I pay no more than $2.48 for a pineapple at most stores. For some reason, I forgot to check my receipt before leaving—a habit I usually stick to because mistakes happen. Cashiers can sometimes charge you twice, ring up the wrong item, or even include items you didn’t buy.

To my surprise, I was charged $6.12 for a regular-sized pineapple. I’ve never seen a store sell pineapples by the pound before! I hoped at least it would taste great—but unfortunately, it didn’t.

I also noticed that many other items in the store were overpriced—truly outrageous. Even at Sprouts, which is generally on the expensive side, I’ve never seen a pineapple priced that high.

It’s frustrating when stores use misleading signage or pricing tactics. It says a lot about their integrity and how the business is run. Sadly, there are too many unscrupulous businesses out there these days.

Personally, I find WinCo, Walmart, and Aldi to offer the most reasonable prices and relatively reputable service.

A reminder to everyone: always check your receipts and expiration dates when shopping. Prices are rising everywhere, and every dollar counts. Don’t let anyone take advantage of your hard-earned money.

Very disappointed. We usually go every weekend to eat something after church and this time we ordered some tacos with the salsas and fixings on the side because last time my tacos got soggy and the nice lady behind the counter gave me avocado salsa on the side as well as regular salsa verde.

We're a family of 4 so our total always comes out close to $100 because we ordered carnitas, tacos, chilaquiles, pozole, menudo, guacamole and aguas frescas.

We came home to eat our food all excited and when we open the bags, the small container on the avocado salsa is not inside 🙄😭 and as Mexicans you know we have to have some good salsa with our tacos.

So when the guy ringed us up, they removed the avocado salsa because they said it was EXTRA and I know it's not because they always add it directly to my tacos but this time I asked for it on the side since my tacos were plain. I thought they meant that an extra salsa would be EXTRA not the one they had already served us. Either way, for the amount of food we got, we only got the 1 container of salsa verde.

I am so disappointed since we always go eat there and for my kids recent birthday party I bought EVERYTHING from there. I spent a little over $1000 for everything I bought, cake, flan, meat, bread for coffee, fruit, plates, juices, etc.

And now they lost a customer. I am not going back. Not cool. They purposely removed the small container of salsa from our bag. I know this because the small salsa verde and avocado salsa were together when they were charging us. Didn't enjoy my...
