I did my review a year ago, and am updating it now (10/2019). I love this place and visit Asheville every year, and this place is a MUST for my time in the area. Once again, I had the turkey sandwich (minus the turkey since I'm vegetarian) - they accommodate that request). My mom had a special of egg salad on a croissant, with crisp bacon on it (she is NOT a vegetarian...) She said it was amazing. And, again, I had the orange cake for dessert - soooo good. The servers are really nice and super attentive. I just love this place and will keep coming back as long as I come to the area. You can't go wrong; there's parking, place is clean, food and service are exemplary, and I love the presentation of the food - I look at others' plates and everything is presented so beautifully. It's truly a great little place! I'll be back next year! (from October, 2018): This is a great little place in a super-cute frame house. I eat lunch here every time I come to Hendersonville. They have great soups and sandwiches and the best potato salad EVER. The service is always good, and the place is clean and the food is wonderful. I'm a vegetarian, so I get a sandwich that normally would have turkey on it - I have them leave the turkey off and they always perfectly accommodate my special request. Today I, again, got that sandwich and had the turkey left off. It comes on the MOST amazing cranberry roll with fresh lettuce - it's really a delicious sandwich. My mother had the same thing, only she left off the provolone cheese and had the turkey on her's - as always, they accommodated that special request. We sat there and tried to figure out WHY the potato salad was the absolute best - but we couldn't. It's really good and I get it all the time. There are other good-looking sides too. One good thing, you can get half a sandwich, if you're not a big eater (I am!). Service is always quick and very good. They keep the tables clean and the place is very welcoming. You order at the door as you go in. You pay there, get a number, and a server brings you your food. Be SURE to look at the desserts - they are so fresh and good and rather inexpensive compared to what I am used to. I always go for the orange cake, but the sweet lady taking the orders today suggested an "apple dumpling" - she said they were fresh and so good. I said ok and my mother and I were sharing it. They were nice enough to cut it in half and put it on separate plates; I appreciate that. It came with some good whipped cream AND a dollup of sour cream on the top. Sounds weird, right? but it wasn't - it was perfect. The dumpling was fantastic. The store is cute with a lot unique gift-type items. Parking is free on site and there is indoor seating (cute place!), as well as a wonderful covered veranda when the weather is nice. You will drive right past this place if you don't look for it. Coming from Hendersonville on that main road, after you cross the interstate, go slow, it's a right turn. Cute house in the country!

The widows of my church came here for lunch. I do half to say it was pretty good. It was a little on the expensive side. 32.00 for lunch. For 2 adult plates 2 teas and 1 childs plate. But, for lunch the portions were good. The shop where you can buy stuff is reallly cute. The only thing is if you have a elderly person that cant do steps well there is no dip in the cement for them or wheelchairs a steep incline to go up to get to the restaurant and then 4 steps to go up. And there not little steps. So just a word of warning! The waitress was alright. She did explain the menu to us that has never been before but, she only refilled our drinks once. After our food got here she didn't come back except to get the money. I refilled my tea. 🙄 food was good though but, expensive.

Always looking for healthy food in Hendersonville and I had no idea I’d for it here! Had a divine 1/2 Reuben on rye with a super delicious broccoli salad on the side. They have a great selection of items and allowing a 1/2 sandwich always great. The selection of hot teas also very good. Finally they offer 6 or so desserts - I chose a lemon cake that was huge and moist and delicious - I couldn’t eat it all - definitely share! And….there are many gift shops around these days, but I found truly unique items as this one. I’ll be back! I’ll bring my mom because they have a nicely placed handicap ramp and room for navigation inside the gift shop!

With fond memories of going to A Day in the Country several years ago, we returned today after touring in the area. We were terribly disappointed. The quality of the food in the restaurant has substantially declined. We ordered chicken salad sandwiches with toast and the chophouse potato soup as a side. The potato soup was so oversalted, it was inedible. It had also been sitting in the pot for quite some time, as you could tell that the starch in the potatoes had overdeveloped, and there was a slimy film on the potatoes. The toast was barely toasted but dry, as if it had been put in a toaster oven for about 20 seconds. The greatest disappointment, however, was the chicken salad, which resembled canned cat food. I do not say this lightly. It was so over-mixed as to by ground up into a paste or paté, almost. The only "solid" substance was the bit of cranberry. Otherwise, it was as if eating a paste of chicken and mayonnaise with no seasoning or flavor. It looked, smelled, and tasted exactly like what we feed our cat. Neither of us could finish it or stomach waiting for any other food. The waitstaff was nice, but we...
