Leaving 4 stars because I do not want to hurt a small business, however the experience was poor. Tried this barbershop out because of reddit, but finding the reviews hard to believe because the lack of skill in the barbers. I went to Peter because online consensus was that he was the best barber in the shop. Asked for a simple sideburn and rear taper. He did his best and had a nice introverted personality. The taper was dragged into a poorly executed mid skin fade, which was not what I asked for. The technique was antiquated and juvenile, maybe his skills are better suited for more traditional, old school cuts. Hair was not combed out initially, which led to a slip shoddy uneven final product. Ultimately, the left side of the fade was brought up too high and into the top of my hair, which will take two months to grow back to a normal shape. If coming because the online reviews be vigilante. For the same price there are much higher quality barbers nearby. As a person, Peter is great. However, as a professional I cannot recommend him.
UPDATE: Just received an email from Hoboken Hair, offering a full refund for services in an impressively professional manner. Because this level of accountability, I have to say customer service here goes...

I visited Hoboken Hair yesterday, and while the shop itself had a nice, clean atmosphere, my experience was disappointing.
When I called to book, they asked what kind of haircut I wanted. I just said “a haircut,” assuming that would be straightforward. When I got there, I waited about 10–15 minutes, which was fine. But when I showed a photo of the fade I wanted, they said they didn’t have time for it and pushed for a “regular” cut. Even after I offered to pay extra, they weren’t interested.
They ended up doing the fade anyway, but it was poorly done — no real blend, just a harsh jump between lengths. The top was also uneven. Whenever I tried to speak up, they blamed my previous barber instead of taking responsibility.
The haircut felt rushed and rough, with zero communication. I honestly felt like they just wanted to get me out of the chair. I’ll be going to my regular barber today to fix it.
I won’t be returning, but I hope they start treating customers with more care. A nice shop only goes so far if the service...

I wanted to take a second to give a shout out to one of the stylists who has been cutting my hair for over seven years. I have been going to Peter since I was in my mid 20’s (I’m now 30). I even moved into New York City for two years and deliberately came back across the river to Peter to get my haircut because nobody came close to providing the cut that he does. Peter doesn’t let you leave unless he’s comfortable with the cut he’s given you. He pays close attention to your hair and is detail oriented to the point where you feel extremely confident leaving afterwards. If I moved away from Hoboken again, I’d find ways to come back. They are the best haircuts I’ve ever received and I keep coming back spec because of the service. You all should do yourself a favor and book an appointment with him. I do warn you though.. after you’ve gotten a cut by him, nothing will compare...
