Walmart has become one of the worst places to shop. It has become the butt of so many comedian jokes for a reason. These stores were once clean, well kept, pleasing stores to buy groceries. The negative reputation is warranted! The long a** self checkout lanes are horrible. If this company is moving toward all self checkout lanes add more to the damn store. There are only two cashiers working at one time. Their produce section is straight trash, very little selection and the product is below standards. Don't get me started on the lack of carts. There are 10 associates standing around talking and cackling, but no one is outside collecting carts. The paper towel and toilet paper section always look like a bombed and depleted Baghdad city. So many of the aisles are unkept. There is no one ready to help, everyone is basically running around feeling online orders. Don't get me started on the bottle return section, it's always broken down.
Shop at Meijer, although Meyer is a tad bit more expensive the store is clean there's a bigger selection of produce products, there are people there to help, there are more people at the cash registers ready to check you out, it's just an overall better experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst of all, the photo for the mall is inaccurate - Younkers at the mall has been out of business for years. In my most recent visit to the mall I went to the "new" anchor, Burlington Coat Factory, which offers cheaply made discount stuff.
Later I stopped by Herrick District Library's temporary North Side branch, which, I was told, they'll be using until December of 2020. It's a perfectly functional space, and really a great location (I wish they'd hold on to it as an East Side branch, frankly).
I use FedEx Kinko's in the perimeter strip regularly, excellent service and (as of 9/4/20) they offer both curbside drop-off & pick-up, AND you can go inside and do your own copying, etc., yourself.
Restaurants along the perimeter strip of the mall are nothing stellar. QDoba is astoundingly expensive for what they offer - WARNING ! DON'T add on guac or cheese sauce or you'll end up paying nearly $16 for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn one hand there's disappointment in the shuttering of storefronts here over the years, leaving few businesses open in this vast mall to actually check out. On the other hand, it's an understandable phenomenon with other malls opening fairly nearby in this region, straining the market available to them. For what they have it's a well-maintained mall, not dirty or decrepit, and I've heard they are re-making the place as a more strip-mall style entity that focuses on the anchor stores and restaurants, as opposed to finding dozens of individual small tenants for the interior stores. Will be interesting to see how these changes pan out, hopefully it...
