If I could give this store a zero I would. Today (oct29) at 6pm. I decided to come in for some carne con papa because my mom brought some over to my house and I thought it was delicious so I decided to go back and get some more. Due to the fact that I am pregnant and on a special diet I can’t have the sides. I came in just for the carne con papa. I am in line waiting but notice there is 0tickets in the ticket holder. I waited for 10-15mins before a woman came up to the counter and asked for tickets, to which the worker explained that she needs to lifted the ticket machine to see if there were more tickets. There was. Once I waited for the 4 customers that were in front of me, the woman who had JUST showed up hands the worker the ticket and started to giving her order. I spoke and said excuse me I was waiting here before her. The worker asked me if I had a ticket to which I said no because the machine looked empty. She made this face like 😬 Mind you, the worker obviously was not asking for tickets because she had to adjust the counter from 10 to 25. Nor did she ask the 4 people ahead of me for tickets. And you might argue the work couldn’t have seen me, impossible I’m 5’09 and was taller than any of the 4 customers who were ahead of me. But the part about this that really pissed me off was the fact that the worker asked the woman who was skipping me “is it okay if I take her first?” Like excuse me? I was here before her in the first place and you aren’t keeping track of ticket or asking for tickets. I had to calm down to not stress myself or my baby. The way this worker handle this was absolutely horrible. And this isn’t the first time I had a bad experience here, the last time was with a manger who told me to wait for an item and kept telling us to wait (15-20) until he realized that he was confusing me with someone else. He confused me with someone who wanted fish, while I was asking for baby formula. I think people needs to be trained better in this location. A little common sense ain’t so...
Read moreI have been a frequent customer at Key Food Supermarket, but unfortunately, my experiences there have been consistently disappointing. The majority of the staff are Spanish, and I have observed clear racial bias in how they interact with Black customers. Despite Black people making up a significant portion of their customer base, the treatment we receive is often dismissive and unwelcoming. On my recent visit, I had only 10 items, yet the cashier scrutinized my purchase as if I had more. Instead of simply scanning my items, she questioned whether I had the correct amount, while simultaneously looking toward customer service, seemingly to call over another Spanish employee. This wasn’t the first time I’ve experienced such treatment from this particular cashier—her demeanor toward me has always felt prejudiced. Another issue I’ve noticed is the lack of diversity among the staff. There is only one Black employee working in the entire store, which is concerning given the community they serve. This situation raises an important question: Why do we, as Black consumers, continue to support businesses that do not respect or value us? Other communities, such as Jewish people, have built their own establishments to serve their people—why can’t we do the same? While I understand that my decision to no longer shop at this store won’t affect their profits, I choose to spend my money where I feel respected. I encourage others to be more mindful of where they invest their hard-earned dollars. Respect should be a standard in customer service, not a privilege given to select groups. I hope to see more Black-owned supermarkets in our communities in the future. Until then, I will take my...
Read moreThey offer a good variety of fruits and vegetables, especially products from South America and the Caribbean Islands. Reasonable prices. Some items are very pricey compared to competitors, but other products are more economical, so you need to compare prices if you're looking to save some money. Lately, they have more organic and healthy options (dairy, eggs, etc) I buy here every week or more often, especially the groceries. In the past 4 years, the quality and options available have improved dramatically, but also, the prices have increased. The only minus... the AC, extremely cold. And when the outside gets cooler, the indoor becomes freezing cold. This might be their need to maintain fresh for longer time their procuce, but it is colder than any other supermarket I go to, and the workers are very clearly uncomfortably cold all day long. I hope they will fix this issue with the thermostat, because on top of increasing the electricity consumption and expenses it is very bad for the environment.
NOTE FOR INFANT MOMS: Here you can find a Baby Changing Station and the restrooms are very clean! I didn't know they...
