Distractions On The Island in Holmes Beach was such a great experience for our visiting guests. We live locally and brought two tweens—one who considers herself crafty and artistic, and the other who said upfront that art wasn’t really her thing. Silena, the owner, took care of us personally and was wonderful with both kids. She walked them through every step of the process, from choosing their pottery pieces and paint colors to explaining how the colors would change in the kiln. She offered tips on brush techniques, encouraged them to practice, and reminded them that there are no mistakes—just creative choices. That reassurance made a big difference and helped them both feel confident and proud of their work.

There’s a wide variety of fun pieces to choose from, and the relaxed, air-conditioned studio is the perfect place to escape the heat or spend a rainy afternoon. Walk-ins are welcome, and the turnaround time was fast—our guests were able to take their finished, glazed pottery home before their vacation ended.

This was such a fun experience!! Distractions is run by the sweetest people and they do everything they can to help you and make it a positive experience. The owner and her mom answered all of our questions, checked on us, chatted with us, and overall made this so great. They truly care about this business and want everyone to relax and enjoy the simple joy of being creative and painting pottery. This was the perfect afternoon activity. Cutest little place ever! Me and my mom came here to pass time since it was rainy and it was definitely worth it. Selena is immediately so welcoming and easy to talk to, which i feel like means a lot especially if you have kids. Its only $7 per person to sit down, and then different pieces cost differently, plus they can ship your pieces to you if youre not in town long enough to pick them up!
