If Valhalla had a food court and Spencer’s Gifts, it would be THE HOLYOKE MALL. I entered at 10:03 a.m. and didn’t leave until Tuesday. Was I kidnapped by Bath & Body Works? Perhaps. Was it voluntary? Absolutely. I now own 17 seasonal candles and a mysterious rash.
There is no linear time here. Only escalators.
I saw a child yeet a churro across the second floor and it hit a Hot Topic employee who didn’t flinch. That’s Holyoke strength. I watched a seagull walk into Macy’s. He had somewhere to be. And you know what? I respect that.
I tried to use the restroom near JCPenney and was transported to a parallel dimension where all the mannequins had names and gave me life advice. Thank you, Gregory. I’m quitting my job tomorrow.
The GameStop here? A gladiator arena for Funko Pop debates. A man in a Sonic hoodie challenged me to a duel over preorder bonuses. We both cried. It was beautiful.
AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE FOOD COURT. I had bourbon chicken, pizza, AND a bubble tea that made me see into the astral plane. There is a Pretzelmaker that radiates raw spiritual energy. I saw a man drop his lemonade, and a stranger gave him a fist bump of solidarity. I wept.
If you haven’t walked out of Target carrying nothing you went in for but everything you needed, you haven’t lived. I now own 3 lamps, a novelty Squishmallow, and an intimate understanding of despair.
In short: Holyoke Mall isn’t just a shopping center. It’s a state of mind. A mythos. A chaotic, sacred labyrinth of capitalism and churros. And I will be returning. Probably tonight.
5 stars. Would get...
Read moreSo not ALL of Victoria's Secret 's employees are horrible anymore! Just one. Because of how I was treated about 10 years ago bc I asked for an "XL" in a sweatshirt, now I shop looking dirty without makeup or doing my hair and wearing sweats. The sweetest, tiniest girl helped me with no prompting and helped me no questions asked. The woman who I was looking at the first step in the store helped or tried helping the woman in front of me and behind me. I was thinking, "here we go again!"! Then that tiny girl who looked maybe 18 knew what she was talking about. Especially when it came to bra sizing me! She said that if I want to wear push up bras to go a cup size DOWN! Omg what a difference!! Once the lady who ignored me when I first walked in saw her helping me out, did a hair flip only to have her jaw drop when I dropped a little over $500 (sale! And I happened to come into a bit of cash) tried to butt in on this girl helping me!! I said, "No ma'am you had your chance."! I grabbed the manager and brought her over to the girl who helped me out so so much and praised how awesome she was and is! Funny how 10 years ago I was all dolled up, hair and nails and makeup done and I ran out crying bc I asked for an XL sweatshirt and the woman said "Oh my! We don't sell that size HERE!" in front of everyone & it was busy bc there was a crazy sale going on. Just because someone LOOKS like they can't afford something expensive, don't treat them badly. Because I will bet the people you are going to the moon and back for won't...
Read moreMy daughter and I were in Springfield for the night because she had a post-op follow-up appointment at Shriners Hospital so we were just hanging out at our hotel with nothing to do on a Monday night! She wanted to go shopping so I started to Google malls close by....I came across the Holyoke Mall and thought that would be a great place to check out. I set my Google map on my phone and we hit the road. We came down from Northern Maine so the traffic and streets are a bit overwhelming compared to what we are use to...but it was super easy to find and easy to get to! My daughter was in heaven seeing all the different stores! It was very clean and there weren't a bunch of empty stores. There are a bunch of options...something for everyone! The food court had several options...was hoping for more healthy options besides Subway but overall a decent selection. The 2+ levels of exploring and shopping definitely pass the time...you could literally spend a whole day and not see every store! Highly recommended! Oh and there was ample parking. We parked outside JC Penney and was able to park close...granted it was a Mo day afternoon/evening but considering that it was still...
