I would leave ZERO stars if I could! I will NEVER come here again! The service was horrid, our table was dirty, and our waiter took so long to take our food order, 20 minutes, that I had to get up and go look for him! Then he took our order, our appetizer order (and supposedly put it in) he took our dinner order and our salads that came with the order were brought out within 5-10 minutes. We waited another hour for our dinner came to come out. We didn’t see our waiter for the entire hour! Other waitstaff delivered our dinner and our appetizers NEVER came out when our dishes. We asked about it, and they never even made them (we sat across from the sushi bar where the salad appetizers were made) the Manager went over behind the bar and asked the sushi chefs to make a sashimi salad, and an avacado crabmeat salad. The avacado was never cut, just a huge half of avacado under all the crabmeat. No knives in the silverware napkins either. Then while eating the sashimi salad, my friend said “Oh my God!” and fished something out of her mouth, she had a piece of broken GLASS in her sashimi salad that she almost swallowed! She pulled it out of her mouth and then I became LIVID! I asked for the manager, and she acted like she had no idea where it would’ve come from while she was looking at it dumbfounded as if it wasn’t from the restaurant. She said no glass is used in the sushi bar, so she went in the back kitchen to look. No explanation from the manager as to where it came from, and offered to remove the appetizers from our bill, and offered to remake my friends sashimi salad. The manager stood by and watched the sushi chef make her sashimi salad. My friend took a couple bites but was too afraid to eat it from the glass in the previous salad. The server came over AFTER everything happened and our dinner was delivered and apologized to us for the glass, and gave us a measly 15% off our bill. Then the WORST part, I got FOOD POISONING after I left! I was vomiting and had diarrhea from 9:30pm-3:30am! I am disgusted with how unclean the bathroom is there, and that the sushi chef not only was careless preparing the sashimi and left glass in it, but the OTHER sushi chef clearly didn’t wash his hands after using the restroom and I suffered from food poisoning because of it. (I watched who made our crab and sashimi salads, and there were two different men who put up our plated dishes to be served to our table. I am NEVER GOING BACK THERE, and will tell my friends and family to never go there as well. Dirty and unkempt dining room and tables, dirty bathrooms with 2 broken toilets filled with excrement, an aloof and unconcerned manager, broken GLASS in our food, and FOOD POISONING! Unacceptable for ANY restaurant regardless of its just a mall...

We have been longtime customers since the opening, and are coming at least twice a months with our family and friends. Usually we have 5-10 people every time we come to eat. After so many meals, we have developed relationships with some of their best Chefs, we even threw a going away party for Chef Ray before he move back overseas and texted afterwards. Sultan replaced him and was a very good Chef too, until he left to open his own business. Shay has been our server for years and she is amazing. H&M has been our Chef since Sultan left and we are looking forward to meet Joe, as we have seen his performance and enjoyed his style. Hibachi is more than food, it is an experience and this is why we come so often.

Having said this, last time we did not get our requested Chef H&M. The new Chef was horrific! When we told the management team, they apologized and said it was a communication error on their end and it would not happen again. Mistakes happen, so we let this go.

On November 29th 2020 we came back again and we asked for our Server Shay & Chef H&M or Joe. We were told Shay is off and we would get either H&M our usual Chef, or Joe. So after check in we were seated. Then a different Chef showed up again, we were shocked. We didn’t know how to react. Luckily, the new server we got forgot to turn the Hibachi Grill on, so the Chef had to walk away and said we need to wait like 5-10 minutes to heat up. In turn we got up and saw Xavier (General Manager) and he said he will fix this right away and H&M will come to cook for us. Minutes later we see H&M go to another table and so did Joe. Surprised we looked at each other and the new Chef came back. Not sure what to do, as we didn’t want to repeat the horrible experience from last time. Therefore we decided to get up and walk out. This was so embarrassing, as the cook started cooking and looked at us in shock. When our usual Chef H&M saw us, he ran after us and asked for us to come back and he would come right over. We did and H&M cooked our meal. The meal was amazing as usual and we asked to speak with the manager.

When we followed up with Xavier, he was so apologetic, but could not explain what went wrong this time around, especially after we already talked to him. I asked him for a follow up, gave him my business card and didn’t hear anything. Then I sent a follow up Email through their website and didn’t hear anything. Therefore I am sharing my review with everyone else, to make sure people are aware. It seems Sumo’s does not appreciate their loyal longtime customers and doesn’t follow through. It has changed a lot since Rachel (Former Manager) left.

At this time we are not planning...

It is a mall and they have free parking

The place has hibachi and looked legit and all. The cooks are very skilled and the decor here is nice and fancy.

The reason I give it 1 star is not for the looks or the food at all. But for the fact that I would have never come here I'd it wasn't for their lack of understanding of what is served here.

I was craving some sashimi and I love going to on demand all you can eat sushi places so I saw this place and called.

When I called they told me they had all you can eat and I said I was coming by then I took a 17 minute drive here.

When I came in I asked the hostess I told her I called and I wanted to have the all you can eat menu, she said ok and sat me down.

Once the waitress came I received the news that they in fact did not have all you can eat.

They do not have all you can eat, even though I called and asked at the hostess podium when I arrived and they said yes.... whattttt

I would never come here if I knew. I feel cheated into coming here, since I was here and hungry I stayed .

Lychee martini- not impressive at all, the sake tasted cheap, and the signature of a lychee martini is the sweetness but not on this martini. All I tasted was vodka.

Sashimi combo- this is a 26 dollar plate that i had to add another dollar to ask for a specific change on the roll that come with it. All I wanted was spicy tuna instead of tuna. They already lied to me and upcharge me now.

Shrimp shunai- it is good, ofc deep fried, so you cant mess that up. Order comes with 6, it was pretty tasty

Fried cheesecake- it is a panko fried cheesecake, it is pretty good. Not at all a disappointment.

This would have been a great place to come and eat for the food if I was not fooled unto spending a lot of money here for a deal they didn't have and made me believe thet did.

The folks is pretty ok and worth the trip. Their staff just need to learn what all you can eat means. And they need to stop fooling people into coming here.

I will not come back out of principle, but the food is good.

If you like to...

They estimated between 5 and 10 minutes for our wait and we waited about 20. But once we sat down and took another 10 minutes to get drinks. The cook was as theatrical as he could be. Food was good but not amazing...

I ordered the rainbow roll and miso soup. I go to many different sushi and hibachi spots across the country, and the quality here is very typical of the region. To say the least, it is lack luster. Before I continue to the food, I will say the wait staff are great. The atmosphere is busy and full of life, the way a proper hibachi grill should be. Now to the food. The miso soup was ok, the base was flavorful for the most part, but the tofu had clearly absorbed the flavor of the fridge it was stored in beforehand. My sushi was very clearly premade earlier in the day. The rice was very dry and stale, and the nori already soggy. The flavors have already absorbed into each other. My husband ordered chicken hibachi, the chicken was overcooked, and the rice just felt like it was missing something. Sushi and cooking should be a work of heart, and this place clearly only focuses on it's aesthetic. When I asked my husband his thoughts, he replied "it's food". Most of the flavors honestly reminded me of the food court. My final thought is if you are looking for a lively atmosphere, but don't really want a genuine Japanese food, this is the spot. But if you want food that will bring you back to little Tokyo, or your last trip to Japan, this ain't it.
