The staff member during check in was apparently in the washroom while I waited for about ten minutes and when she did show up she seemed in a dour mood. Luckily that did not set the tone for my overall stay. I noticed a discount coupon on the desk for the Applebees next door where I intended to eat and asked if I could use it. She responded that it was for guests, but it would have been nice to have her offer this without being asked.
The room was well appointed with desk and chair plus TV although I did not use any of them due to being exhausted from a long road trip. There was also an array of soaps and lotion in the bathroom. The room and bathroom specifically were all tidy and well cleaned.
The bed was quite comfortable and provided a good night's rest which I so needed.
The breakfast in the morning surpassed expectations based on what I have encountered at other establishments. There was a wide selection, and all items were fresh. The lady looking after the breakfast area was exceptionally friendly with a smile and good morning greeting as soon as I walked into the area. She also went table to table to ask each guest if everything was ok while they were eating. I should also mention that she was constantly refilling the items and tidying things up in the serving area. I also noticed her cleaning up after a guest who did not put their refuse in the garbage container like myself before leaving.
There were three staff members at the front desk when I checked out who were all friendly and asked me if my stay had been ok. They chatted with me and we even joked and laughed a bit before I went out to my car. That sort of friendly demeanor is appreciated by me.
I have never been to the Springfield/Holyoke area before, and luckily the fellow I was meeting for business told me not to stay where I had been planning, based on an internet search, and suggested this Marriott hotel. I am very thankful he did that and I followed his...
Read moreThe staff and management of this hotel are lovely, five stars. They did their best to try to accommodate this chemically sensitive and mold sensitive traveler. The manager answered a lot of questions from me prior to booking, and gave us a room in the new wing, specially checked the air conditioners and vents, had housekeeping do a special cleaning without fragranced products, and removed the toiletries from the room at my request. They also gave us down-free bedding. The staff remembered us and addressed us by name, and was generally very conscientious, warm, and efficient. I haven't encountered service this nice in many more expensive places. The hotel is generally very clean, and our room was clean, spacious, and had recent and tasteful contemporary decor. It has a new construction wing and a renovated wing and we stayed in the new construction wing. The gym and pool looked really nice (no hot tub) but I didn't use them. I would rate the Fairfield more highly as a value if I had use for these, if the prices were lower, or it simply offered room service. There are lots of dining options nearby, but a hotel without room service always feels a little like a motel to me. The free breakfast is decent and offers oatmeal, cereals, fruit, powdered scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, green tea bags, and that sort of thing. For chemically sensitive travelers you may need to bring your own bedding as the laundry is fragranced and this cannot be overridden by housekeeping, kind...
Read moreJust don't bother. No laundry on site. Rooms have no place to sit down to relax so you end up laying in bed while you're in the room. This Fairfield is bottom of the barrel. Move along to a super 8 which would probably be nicer.
Edit: response to owner. I'm ambassador elite so I think I know what is "common" to the different Marriott chains. You are the exception, not the rule. And FYI, you shouldn't encourage your most loyal Marriott customers to go to other brands, you should engage in conversation and reflect on why someone views your hotel so poorly. I have never stayed at a Marriott without a laundry facility. Maybe I've just been lucky in the 8 years I've been loyal to Marriott, but when the shoe fits... Gut one of your rooms and throw some machines in there. My guess is you don't full 100% but a few times a year so it won't be that major of a loss. But you won't. God forbid you miss out on a few extra duckets right? Yeah, maybe I...
