Maybe, just maybe we chose a "bad"room, (Sherlock's Study) but the combined problems and frustrations lead me to think otherwise. I know finding employees is hard all around, but we showed up just before the time we were told and had to wait for the one person working the desk to finish selling a gift certificate, which took an inordinate amount of time. Once checked in we were shown a video, on an ipad, while still standing at the check in desk. Next we were lead to our room past a beeping thing, which continued to beep most of the time we're were there and was very audible since there were no ceilings in the rooms. We're were given a quick overview of the pretty sparse room, told that the lock functions were on a page on the door, and the countdown timer started. I'm not going to give away stuff, not that we got too far, but a ton was found. I was expecting a puzzle leading to another leading to another and so on. With so much stuff and 5 people in the room things were a mess. Speaking of which there can be up to 8 people which would be extremely cramped. Immediately it was apparent everything was locked and every puzzle was to a lock opening. This might have been fine had the locks functioned properly. We probably wasted 10 minutes trying to find a combination when we had it right the first dozen times but the lock simply wouldn't open....On the first puzzle. Again might be OK had this happened once, but three different locks would not open properly. Also one style of lock had to be pushed in before pulling on, which granted was on the lock overview page, but could have been mentioned on the overview. ESPECIALLY since when we said something to the employee afterwards he responded that the locks sometimes stick! In real life I would have broken what I could get into, but I guess that's not cool in a game. This experience pretty much soured me on escape rooms, mostly due to the cost. If this has been set up well I could see it being fun, but I'm super hesitant to spend $150+ for 50 minutes of...
Read moreEdit: After seeing my review, I have been contacted by management and I have been given a full refund within 12 hours of contacting me. I appreciate this good faith gesture and wanted to be sure people knew that this situation has been rectified.
Please note that my review has nothing to do with the actual escape rooms themselves, but on the managements decency toward their customers (in this case me).
I booked a reservation for this past Wednesday for a first date activity. Upon arriving at the business I waited until our scheduled start time and my date had not yet arrived. At this point she was 15 minutes late and gave me no notice of where she was. After 5 more minutes I had realized that I had been stood up and had to go talk to the employee to discuss my options. She was very apologetic toward my situation and offered to call her manager to see if she could refund my visit because of the circumstances. I waited a little while ( as I had nothing better to do now) then she came back and told me that her manager said they would not refund me, but would give me 1 free trip upon my next scheduling. Yes, you read that right, their solution to my problem was to give me half of my money "back" which would then force me to bring someone else at another visit and have them, or myself, pay for another session on top of this (making them more money).
Now, from a business standpoint, I understand a business wanting to ensure they don't lose money, but in this situation, they ensured that they would not lose money, and they tried to guarantee themselves more if I choose to go back. I don't particularly care for this policy, and do not plan on going back to give them any more business.
If you are unsure about whether or not your whole party can attend, DO NOT book in advance. I not only had to feel embarrassed about my date no showing me, but I am also out $60...
Read moreI want to only say amazing things , but I hope my truthful input will help the business grow. First , Molly (the woman who works, maybe owns the joint) was an absolute sweetheart. She did an excellent job explaining what we needed to do ect. .I brought my 15 and 8 year old with me... we chose the treasure island room. Upon entering the room we all felt intense disappointment. It was decorated so horribly and cheaply. It looked as if someone spent a few dollars on the room. It lacked basic eye catching anything. It looked empty, boring. The game itself was fairly easy , my 8 yr old was bored..my 15 and I had a few good moments and laughs at figuring out the clues. .. even the clues were set up in such a lazy, unimaginative way..a few lock boxes here and there. There really was no "searching " or real "escape room" vibe. It was more like solving a few fun word problems on a sparsely decorated room. The worst part was , we were charges just about 30 dollars a person. This wasn't a 30 dollar a person experience at all! I would put it at around 10 dollars a person. The owners have the right idea. With some time, creativity and ingenuity this place could rock. Fingers...
