My husband and I were very disappointed with our experience yesterday. From start to finish - scheduling to our actual appointment - everything was stressful.
I purchased a Groupon for a couples massage to celebrate my husbandās birthday. When I called to schedule the appointment, the woman on the other end of the line said that they only schedule Groupon vouchers Monday - Friday. A weekday appointment didnāt work with my husbandās schedule. Look, I get it: You didnāt want hundreds (or thousands) of Groupon vouchers crowding out your regularās on the weekend. Totally understandable. But, include that information in the fine print on the voucher. It felt dishonest to me. Red Flag #1.
She told me I could get a refund for my Groupon, and she would honor the same price AND let us schedule for the weekend. (Also felt icky - Feel like weāre getting off on the wrong foot, here.) I declined her offer and agreed to a 6:00 p.m. appointment on a Friday.
Flash forward 2 weeks: We arrive to our 6:00 p.m. appointment at 5:35 p.m. They donāt have us on the books. I provide some information to the receptionist to help clear up any confusion, and tell her we have a Groupon. Weāre given a not-so-pleasant look.
We come back at 5:55 p.m. NO medical forms/background history were filled out prior to our appointment. Our Groupon voucher is redeemed, and weāre guided to our room.
A few minutes later, two massage therapists enter our room. I actually knew they were coming in before they did, because of the loud, boisterous laughter and talking between the two of them. That was the tone for at least 75% of our hour appointment: Loud laughing and talking at āIām in a rowdy barā volume.
The face cradle was broken. A piece of metal dug into my face for the hour. I told my therapist. I was told [paraphrasing] that the face cradle āwas a piece of s*, and the owner shouldāve replaced it.ā Guess Iām outta luck.
Our two therapists left - no less - than 15 times during our appointment. For minutes at a time. Iād estimate our 1-hour appointment was only 30 minutes.
During the non-stop talking, my husband and I found out that our appointment was their SIXTH appointment of the day. As someone who worked at a spa for eight years, I know that is A LOT of work for a massage therapist. Itās exhausting. This might explain why our massages were lackluster. I canāt really call my experience a āmassageā: There were no strokes; only pressing on muscles for the hour.
We did not schedule a hot stone appointment. While my husband was open to the idea, I did not want them. I was never asked - they were just used.
We were told - during our massage - that his therapist would be late to an event at church, thanks to us. Um? She was clearly stressed about it, as she talked about it with my therapist DURING our massage. She then left the room for a few minutes (...still during our paid time...) to discuss the matter with another employee.
The piece de resistance? Another employee (I believe the owner) literally OPENED the door mid-appointment and had like a 5-minute conversation with my therapist. No knock. No apologies. Thank God my husband and I arenāt shy people. But, we were naked (albeit covered), so if thatās not your thing, think twice.
Left the room, no one knew about our redeemed Groupon voucher (confusion), we tipped, and left.
First time I left a massage more stressed than when I walked in. Un-professional. No customer service. Dishonest.
Do yourself a favor, and spend $5 - $10 more on another Groupon....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went there this past weekend and I would not recommend coming here at all. I went for a massage and a facial. The person I had was Kay and she did a horrible job. During my massage, she sat on me multiple times which was extremely awkward. It was also extremely painful. The way she moved my shoulders, my legs, and my neck was extremely uncomfortable and the next morning, I had bruising all over my back. I also experienced pain in my right shoulder and my neck; it's been several days and I am still experiencing this pain. She left the room about 6 or 7 times during my massage and left the door wide open when she left. Also, very awkward. When she had me flip from my stomach to my back, she took the sheet off and watched me roll over. Very unprofessional and kind of violating. When she did my facial, she rubbed my face so hard that the creams got into my mouth and into my eyes even though they were both closed. My eyes were burning the whole facial and for several hours after. She even exfoliated my eyelids and I was picking exfoliating beads out of my eyelashes afterwards. She also had a hair stuck onto her finger and she was rubbing it around my face. I'm positive it was her hair as well because it was short, not long like mine. When she put the sheet mask on my face, she didn't line it up correctly so the sheet was over my mouth and my eyes. I couldn't open my eyes at all and, of course, she left the room several times during this period as well, leaving the door wide open (I never heard the door close). I was a nervous someone else was going to walk into the room. She also would alternate between rubbing my feet and then rubbing my face and she didn't wash her hands when she switched. When I went to pay, I told the woman at the desk (I believe she was the owner) I would like to tip her 10 bucks. Instead of asking me why I was tipping so low, the owner then told me how she had given me a massive discount and that I should be tipping at least 20. I told her no. She then pointed to her pricing menu and said "this is how much it originally costs and you should be tipping more." I told her no again and said I will not tip you more than ten. She replied with "fine!". Please do not come here. Spend your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat can I say about my experience at Beautymed Therapy? I came to Oahu for what was to be a 7-day visit and turned into a 34-day experience. I live on the mainland and had to travel, back and forth, a couple of times, which was adding to my pain and tension in my body. I looked on Groupon to see what was available but knew from experience some of these offers were not always available like the last time I went to Oahu and purchased a massage that the person could not honor for 3 months. I saw the very good reviews on Groupon for Beautymed Therapy but went to Yelp to verify these reviews. Not all sites promoting a company are the same reviews as what the āaverageā consumer experiences. I loved my experience so much with Nina who was the therapist that I went TWO times in less than two weeks. In fact, the last visit instead of 90 minutes I asked to have 2 hours. The business was very nice, professional, and clean. The person who checked me in also made me feel very comfortable along with offering suggestions to not buy anything from their business but a couple of items I could do after the session on how to alleviate some difficulties I had been having with my neck and back. I liked Nina so much that the first time my massage was supposed to be only an hour and I increased it to 90 minutes. The second time I was scheduled for 90 minutes and again increased it to 2 hours. This was my doing, Nina never pressured me or even mentioned increasing my time with her. The reality at the time was I was a tourist, and said walking out after my first massage, āI will be back.ā I am sure the business and masseuses hear this all the time. But I did call back, literally the day before I was returning home for good, trying to get a last-minute appointment with Nina, and did. As soon as I walked in, she remembered me, knew how to help me alleviate my issues, especially for the long flight home. I have heard that Hawaii is expensive, but compared to what I pay at home, I believe the prices at Beautymed Therapy are comparable to most on the island. If you need someone who truly knows what they are doing and is truly intent on helping you not just with a āmassageā but the areas of concern, then Nina is...
