Booked a day before and lucked out with a sunset cruise all to ourselves! There were 7 of us (including a 2 year old and 3 year old) and 1 guy who booked separately - staff said that they would have called it off if we hadn't reserved our spots because they need at least 6 passengers to launch, but the boat itself can hold 40 people, so we had a lot of room to relax!
We brought tons of food and drinks (including alcohol), and the boat was stocked with about 3 or 4 coolers filled with ice and tiny water bottles.
Our captain explained that since it was the sunset cruise, there are usually fewer creatures to see (as they go...somewhere to sleep? lol), but the lights at the bottom of the glass still helped us see a bit of what was going on beneath us. It was 1.5 hours as opposed to the 1 hour day trips, as it moved slower, and the captain also said he would not be doing much talking unless there was anything we wanted to know more about. They played island music and set a good mood.
The most special part was that we GOT TO SEE A MAMA WHALE AND HER BABY!!! Captain said that they were due for a sighting since they hadn't seen any that day, and sure enough, we got to see an incredible sighting. Hands down, the highlight of our journey, though it's tough to say truly because we all enjoyed every bit of it!
We saw schools of fish jumping out of the water, likely being chased by a bigger predator. Our kids got to feed some other tropical fish that were swimming around, and the crew on deck told us what all of the different fish were.
Finally, we reached Diamond Head - in my opinion, an unprecedented view from the water. Truly, we gained a unique and beautiful perspective of the city from the boat. And at night? It just felt so special.
The 1.5 hours flew by, and before we knew it we were back at the dock. Staff was excellent from beginning to end - the experience was phenomenal and I have recommended them to family and friends. Would totally go back to...
Read moreThis was a great tour. We did the mid-morning tour (11am?). The crew was excellent, providing a professional experience and functioning as tour guides as well. Complementary beverages (water, soda, beer and other bottled adult beverages) were also provided which was a nice surprise. The crew were both locals, and very versed on the history of Waikiki and the island itself.
The boat has 4 viewing portals built into the pontoons. Unfortunately for us, the day we booked to go was right after a large overnight storm, so the bay was a little cloudy. There is obviously nothing the crew can do about the weather, and quite honestly the boat ride and bay tour were worth it even if we could not see much through the bottom. The captain was able to get us very close to a few sea turtles. We didn't get to see any dolphins, and it was too early in the year for whales I think. I'd do some research before you book if you are worried about being disappointed in what you might get to see as a lot of sea life is seasonally present.
Their dock is very conveniently located, as well, although beware the lot direct in front is a pay lot although it's not blatantly obvious. All in all, we were extremely happy and I would highly...
Read moreGreat Voyage! Tour starts with safety protocols. There are four large square glass port holes on the bottom of the âcatamaranâ, approximately 4 feet X 6 feet âishâ. Two to the rear, two toward the center. Allows about 12 people to view around each one. They are at the bottom of the pontoon, so approximately 5 feet below the surface of the deck where you are standing. Long winded description for a review, but I wasnât sure what to expect by the website description. All that being said, the stars of the voyage are the Captain and the First Mate! The Captain navigates the vessel while giving great details of the costal development. At perfect timing the First Mate spotted green sea turtles, schools of tropical fish and schools of dolphins. The Captain was able to maneuver the vessel around several times so that I believe all on the boat were able to view the sightings. I didnât attempt to view through the port holes on our voyage, plenty of surface action to follow. While viewing over the side of the boat, I could see coral below us, so Iâm guessing it would have been a great view of it through the port holes. My wife and I both consider it a pretty memorable experience, worth the...
