My 9-year old daughter attended surf camp in June 2025, and it was an absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish. The camp is run by a passionate and professional team - led by Frank, the owner, and three amazing instructors, including Frank's son, Kaue - who were all incredibly attentive, helpful, and encouraging. They went out of their way to make my daughter feel welcome and comfortable in the water, and their patient, positive approach made a huge impression on her.
Although my daughter has been surfing for several years, this camp was a fantastic opportunity to reinforce her existing skills while still keeping it fun and engaging. It's clear that the program is thoughtfully designed for beginner to intermediate surfers. The instructors incorporated fun games and creative activities that kept the kids engaged while teaching technique and promoting ocean safety.
We also really appreciated all the little extras - the camp provided a long sleeve rash guard and a trucker hat for sun protection, and the staff regularly reminded the kids to reapply sunscreen. The equipment was top-notch, and they even provided a healthy snack each day - a thoughtful touch that we really appreciated.
Most importantly, my daughter came away from the experience feeling confident, happy, and even more in love with surfing. She had an amazing time and hasn't stopped talking about it since. We're so grateful for this opportunity and would recommend this surf camp and school without hesitation. It's a fantastic experience for any child looking to learn and have fun...
Read moreOverall pretty straight forward. Good email traffic and text traffic between the instructor and myself. He was prepared, knowledge, and energetic. Now on to the surfing. I will say that it requires a good amount of swimming so if you’re not a strong swimmer or just not good at it (like me) then be prepared to be paddling with your arms in place for a while. Also wear water shoes and a sun shirt; I got a rash on my arm from the board rubbing (once again probably because I’m a terrible swimmer) and it also protects you from the sun. The shoes are to protect you from the rocks below. I’ve never taken lessons so I have nothing to compare it to but after I got over my frustrations with not being able to swim, I was able to get in the board a couple times and caught and rode one wave on my own. The rest of the time I had to get a push start from the instructor. Also, just don’t get frustrated, the instructor is there to help you and he’s not trying to insult your intelligence when he explains something you probably know. Surfing as a whole is a workout and there’s a lot of things you can do with it so I recommend it even if you’re not a good swimmer because I still was able to have a good time even if during it I was frustrated. I feel fairly confident to get on a board with my friends and...
Read moreI highly recommend this surf school for anyone interested in learning how to surf and have a fun time in the water—either a single class or doing a surf program. They also offer surfboard and stand up paddle boards rentals by the hour.
Coach Frank is awesome and will give you the tools and more importantly the support you need to achieve your goals. I completed the Level 1 and Level 2 surf programs. Coach Frank always showed up to my sessions with a positive attitude, excited about the day, and ready to teach. He pushed me hard in the water to stretch myself and always encouraged my progress. He also helped me establish goals for each session and worked with me to help achieve each goal. Coach Frank is very patient—he met me at my level and was always willing to answer any questions I had. He also payed close attention to my form and would give me tips and strategies on how to improve. Each session was a blast and I couldn’t have asked for a better surf experience! As a plus, Coach Frank is located at Ala Moana beach, which is a great place for beginners to learn to surf instead of Waikiki. The water is not as crowded and the surf community at Ala Moana is always respectful and supportive of beginners catching waves with them in...
