I’m 70 years old, and in need of a good therapeutic massage because I have difficulty walking without pain. My feet, calves, legs, lower back are all tight and sore, but my whole body hurts from lack of exercise and activity. A friend had gone to their Ala Moana location and recommended I get a massage. Their Keeaumoku location was closer so I decided to make an appointment on 10/29 at 6:30pm. It’s been over two decades since I’ve had a massage and I didn’t know exactly what to expect.
Things sure have changed from what I remember how therapeutic massage therapy is given. It’s now very informal with a wide range of techniques and services. Not knowing what would work best for me, I tried to explain my symptoms and what I wanted them to focus on. Apparently, they either didn’t understand due to a language barrier or they just didn’t care. I decided to try them anyway since I was there and I am desperate for anything that might help relieve my discomfort and ability to walk normally. I took their 70 minute foot and body massage package for $65 which I thought was very reasonable. Unlike what I remember decades ago, you remain fully clothed and they cover the areas they are massaging with towels which was fine. The lady who massaged me spoke very English so we hardly communicated except for a couple of twitches when she hit a sensitive area. What I felt frustrated with was that I wanted her to focus more on the areas I needed to loosen up and were tight, knotted and painful, but she didn’t seem to notice them and like a robot programmed to massage the body a certain way, moved on to another area so she could complete massaging all the areas of the body in the 70 minutes of time. Overall, I did feel better and somewhat relieved from the sharpness of the areas that I felt pain, but not anything like I had hoped. I tipped her a $20 bill anyway because she did what she was supposed to do and I felt she didn’t know any better than doing what her employer wanted, regardless if it was what I needed. The cashier gave me a card and said I would receive $20 off of my next visit, but I think what she meant was after I had the other nine boxes checked off on subsequent visits.
What irritated me and one of the reasons why I do not intend to return is that the cashier didn’t tell me that I was being charged a 4% customer service fee for I guess for paying with my credit card, though there isn’t a sign to explain the charge or give me the option to pay in cash which I could have easily done. The cashier spoke better English but she wasn’t very proficient so I really don’t know exactly what the problem was in them not explaining the additional charge to my bill. It’s a good thing I asked for a receipt for my credit card records otherwise I would not have noticed the charge when I got home. If I had noticed the additional unexplained charge when I first was given my receipt, I would have asked them what...
Read moreI used to frequent this place quite often. I've given them a lot of business. I've always preferred this location since they opened because Ala Moana tends to get noisy.
Anyway, the past few times I've called to make an appointment, by the time I get to the location they're never ready. What's the point in having an appointment when they have to call a masseur from the other location just to have me wait 20 minutes for them to arrive? That's happened twice but I let it slide because they have been good in the past.
This last time I had called and asked for a specific masseur that I've had in the past, they were not available but I was told that there was someone else I could see that's just as good. Okay, so I made an appointment. I show up and the girl at the desk starts making all kinds of phone calls and telling me she can't get a hold of the masseur and that her manager was the one that made my appointment. On and on. She even asked if I wanted to go to the Ala Moana location "because there might be someone there". I told her not to worry about it anymore and I just left.
I'll find somewhere else. Not worth my time and the...
Read moreI came here at the end of may, this was a long overdue review, so here we go:
I had absolutely no idea what to do and never did any massage before, the front desk was Lisa and she was the sweetest. She answered each and every question with patience, she recommended things that we would like and even dislike, she even made sure that my experience was as best as possible with my back injury.
My experience was a couples full body massage for an hour with cupping, which was performed by Wendy for me and Peter for my boyfriend.
Wendy is amazing!!! She constantly checked in on me with her services, asking if it’s fine, or how is it, or if my back was okay during certain time periods. Her communication throughout the experience was the best, I was able to comfortably trust her entirely in a vulnerable state as well as relax.
My boyfriend said he liked Peter too, he was surprised to learn of the option of a man or woman, he chose a man out of respect to our relationship. To each their own when it comes to what gender you select, but it was a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to go...
