We wanted a smash burger for lunch, so we had to decide between trying some place new or going to our usual place, The D**. One of the guys heard good things about Carl OG3 so he placed our order online and went to pick it up.
Haha, he went to the location on Amana Street and learned that Carl OG3 moved to Young St. They now occupy space within Japanese B.B.Q. Yoshi on Young Street, behind what I still call the First Interstate Building.
He brought back our food but by the time he returned, my burger was at room temperature and the fries were not crispy. Those two are on us, not the restaurant. Three of us ordered “The One”, a Snake River Farms 100% premium American wagyu beef patty, tomato bacon jam, blue cheese, American cheese, onion, jalapeno, & special sauce in a soft bun ($14.49). We each added an order of fries ($2.99). The fourth person ordered The Classic Cheeseburger ($8.99) and fries ($2.99).
Our thoughts: Those of us that ordered “The One” thought that the tomato bacon jam and slices of jalapeno overwhelmed the meat. We couldn’t taste the Wagyu beef. We opined that a second patty was needed to offset the intense flavors of the toppings, but that would increase the price to $20.99. The person that ordered The Classic Cheeseburger liked his sandwich; he gave Carl OG3 a rating of 4; I rated it 3.
When one compares The Classic Cheeseburger and fries from Carl OG3 versus a similar order from The D*, the cost tips in favor of Carl OG3 significantly, $11.89 versus $16. Are we willing to drive to pick up burgers versus a 5-minute walk? That question remains...
Read moreWow! Came here and was not disappointed. Got the Wagyu Cheeseburger (double patties) with a basket of Crinkle Cut Fries. I have not had a more fresh and juicy burger longer than I can remember. My first bite and already had burger juices running down both hands. The patties were cooked perfectly, no pink centers and crispy edges 🤙. The burgers were very favorable. Their sauce is like allot of places, ketchup types with some secret ingredients and tiny chopped pieces of raw onions with a slice of good ol' American cheese top it off. I was thinking I would double the cheese but I did not want to take away any of the Wagyu flavor of the burger. If you have never tried Wagyu I would highly recommend this burger. It has a slightly different taste (better in my opinion) than regular ground beef. The bun was a brioche style, slightly warmed up and a little hint of sweetness and lightly toasted on the inside. The crinkle cut fries were hot, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I can't think I have ever had fries this good. They stayed warm in the basket until I had finished my burger. As we were the first people in the place, the service was fast and friendly while checking up every 10-15 to make sure everything was ok. All in all, I have not eaten a better burger than here. I highly recommend this place if you are a burger enthusiast or if this will be your first time having a smash burger. Parking was free and reserved underground, just look for the poles that say Restaurant and park in...
Read moreVery odd experience here this afternoon, walked in about 1:30. There were many people milling around waiting, the cashier spent a good five or six minutes discussing someone’s order that had apparently not been filled correctly. This eventually resolved at which point the cashier just disappeared. There were random people standing around sort of waiting and wondering. Then I saw the cashier start bussing tables. I was there for at least 15 minutes and no one took my order, nor did I see a single order of food come out in that whole time. After inquiring with someone else if they had seen any food come out, to which they said no, I left and went to a different place. Still don’t quite understand what was going on there. is there a perhaps a secret code? Is there some reason everyone was just left waiting in line? The whole experience is somewhat of a mystery. The pictures make the food look really good. I just...
