BEWARE RYAN JACOBSEN IS A COMPLETE JOKE AND WASTE OF TIME. He portrays himself as a total professional, but he can't even keep a scheduled time to meet and train. I met up with him one day because he had told me he could help me with my back problem (slight case of scoliosis). I thought it would be a great idea to train with him since I only go to the gym and I'm used to weights and cardio, so I wanted to try something different that would strengthen my back.
Ryan charged me $200 for 3 classes lasting 1 hour each (pricey, but again wanted to just try it and see what benefits it provided for my back). The 1st class we had he arrived on time and without cancellation and/or last minute rescheduling. Lasted the full hour and I left feeling good. The trouble started coming the 2nd class. He didn't even bother to reschedule again of time. I confirmed with him that we were going to meet that day, so I drove to his gym (apartment gym off of beltway 8 and Westheimer) and I texted him when I arrived so he could come out, and he didn't respond until 30 minutes later saying, "So sorry my girlfriend, Veronica, is not out of work and I'm here waiting for her." How was I supposed to know he was on pickup duty? Needless to say, I was upset and he said I will give you 1 class for free. Cool, accepted his sorry and free class. Then, the trouble continued on with the 3rd class. Again, I had confirmed with him about meeting, drove to his gym, and got cancelled on and this time no apparent reason. So, he apologized (his words not worth anything anymore as you can tell) and offered another free class. At this point, I have 2 free classes and 2 paid classes. Long story short, I received my 2 paid classes (after tooth and nail), but was left without receiving my 2 free classes.
The straw that broke the camel's back was yesterday. Confirmed our meeting time and place, drove to his gym, texted him I was there and he calls me. He says, "I don't have my card to get into the gym" (BTW, this happened ALL the time. Again, complete unprofessional). He continues on with an attitude saying, "Find someone to let you in. I'm training two other people right now and can't help you. If you can't get in, change in the car." I told him I couldn't do that plus I needed to use the restroom. This is the best part: he said, "Well, I can always change in the car and I use the restroom outside so why don't you do the same?" I was floored and couldn't believe my ears. But, he kept on repeating that and hung up on me.
At this point, I considered myself an idiot for going along with his total lack of professionalism since the beginning. But, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so I went up to the gym doors to see if anyone was inside. No one was there, so I called Ryan and he picked up still with an attitude and upset because I couldn't "fend for myself." He leaves the two people he was training to come yell at me and be a jerk in person instead of over the phone. He says as a last response, "Either you find a way to get into the gym, change in your car, go to my apartment to change/use the restroom, or go to a nearby grocery store and use their restroom." Not going to lie, but I wanted to punch him in the face and where it hurts SO BAD. The level of rudeness that Ryan had reached was unbelievable. I left without saying another word.
Now, I'm here and writing this review because I DO NOT WANT ANYONE ELSE TO GO THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH WITH THIS GUY. He definitely has mental/emotional issues and wants to take it out on his clients. I hope this review helps someone to save their valued time and money because Ryan Jacobsen will not...
Read moreWhere to begin?! I am an ex-gymnast and swimmer. I quit sports for almost 11 years before I picked it all back up again nearly 4 years ago. In that time, I have not come close to remastering all of the gymnastics skills I had when I was younger. Before Ryan found me, I was just doing handstands and cartwheels! After just one class, Ryan had me pulling over the bar, doing windmills, and working on my bar kip. Since that class, my confidence, athletic ability, and physique have skyrocketed. Whether just starting out or a seasoned athlete, Focus Fitness has something to offer you. The classes are small, supportive, and close-knit. Ryan, the owner and coach, is a talented athlete who does an outstanding job catering to all skill levels in the class. I never felt as though I was being ridiculed, mocked, judged, or objectified (which happens often in traditional gym settings). Ryan is also HUGE on building a solid foundation to build strength on and building the micro muscles necessary for healthy range of motion and sustainable athleticism. Overall, if you're a beginner or an expert, you stand to gain something from Focus Fitness. They offer several classes daily, price fairly, and will truly help you...
Read moreI've been going for a few weeks now and it has been all I hoped it would be. I have been active in health and fitness activities for 25 years so I have a lot to compare to. I'm a runner, cyclist, weight lifter, you name it. This has been a brand new type of work out, even compared to other calisthenics I've done. The workouts are very hard and very enjoyable, and the results are amazing. Soreness you've never felt before without the feeling of overdoing or injury. Extremely balanced approach to working your muscles from the inside out, from head to toes. I did not like crossfit, personally. The motto seemed to be "bust ass and go crazy", and not much else. Ryan's workouts certainly bust your ass but it feels very prescriptive, deliberate and balanced. Try a couple classes,...
