My friend found this cute neighborhood spot online while visiting Houston. We arrived a few minutes after they opened and they were busy. There was no host and only 2 servers at the bar trying to handle everything.
I originally ordered a dish that was supposed to be a French toast, but it was not good. The toast was super sweet and drenched in syrup. It was topped with fresh fruit that had a sweet cream drizzled all over-talk about sugar overload. I asked the server a bit more about the dish before ordering and she what she described was not accurate.
After an attempt to eat the sugary dish, I took it back. She accused me of eating half the dish, when half of the toast was only eaten and some of the fruit. The bacon was still in tact.
The waitress takes my dish to the manager in the back, and after a few minutes she comes back with the dish saying my dish could not be returned. Because the turnaround was so quick, I asked to speak with the manager. Visibly frustrated at this point, she goes on a search for the manager, but not in the back where she supposedly searched minutes ago. In walks a guy who looks like he was just coming to work and she speaks to him. He allows me to exchange my dish, I thank him, but offers a reprimand of sorts on ordering next time. Excuse me! Needless to say, I will not be back.
My friends enjoyed their dishes and my lavender infused latte was good, but not enough for a return visit.
Down the Street is a cute, quaint spot, but they could stand a few lessons in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent here for happy hour with friends on Friday! Loved the atmosphere. The food is touch and go. I tasted the Man pizza which was good. The pretzel was very dry and the cheese sauce that came with it was not very palatable. Very runny. Brussel sprouts were crispy and tasted great! The sticky Asian wings were definitely the best food item! Perfectly crispy and the glaze was spicy and sweet but not too much heat. Definitely recommend those. Between myself and my friends, we had every cocktail on the menu and no joke, they were all amazing! No complaints! Drinks were mixed to perfection. I hate when you can taste the alcohol. These cocktails were sufficiently strong, they didnāt skimp on the liquor, but it also didnāt taste like liquor if that makes sense š Bartender called me by name all night which was a nice touch. Music selection was also on point! They have a juke box and you can pay to select whatever you want. I didnāt pay and the crowd was keeping it jumping. Get here early because parking is a challenge! I got here around 4:45 on a Friday and there was a handicapped space and one other parking spot available. Since my car is relatively small and I have a back up camera, I was able to get a spot (not the handicapped one). When the weather cools off, Iām sure the patio is better than being indoors. Also pet friendly. A guy had his cutie patootie doodle and there was no issue. Lots of tvās all around. The Astros were on while...

Overall night started ok at this place. Nice outdoor patio area, friendly waitstaff (who can barely make an old fashioned, but can pour draft beer fairly well), and a decent vibe. Would have been a great place to hangout with over and over again... except...
I somehow dropped my wallet at the high-tops I was sitting at with my buddies in one of the corners of the place. I got home in 10 minutes, realized I didn't have it, and got back to the place 10 minutes later. Now, it was relatively dark and dim, and it wasn't super crowded so I was hopeful the wallet was still there. Apparently not, the busyboys had already cleared up the table and didn't see it. The manager tried his best, but couldn't find it. I'm fairly certain if anything, the wallet fell right under the chairs / table, and somehow disappeared in the 20 minutes I had it to pay for everything and when I got back.
So word of warning, even though this should be a safe neighborhood bar to drink, there are very opportunistic...
