As a former Target and Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World manager, I'd like to make the following comments and observations:
If you can put up with the poor merchandise presentation and total disorder in the store, you can find some very good bargains.
The store has about 8 or 10 bin tables. On Friday morning, they offer anything on these tables for $10. As the week progresses ( Sat, Sun, Mon, Tuesday, etc) the prices drop each succeeded day to $7, $5, $3, $2, etc. This process is repeated every week.
On Friday morning, most of the merchandise in the table are neatly displayed in boxes. When they open the door, 50 to 100 people rush in to get first access. Rather than read what is on the box they tear the box open. This results in vital components being separated from the original box. By Friday evening, the tables are in shambles.
My focus is not on those tables, it's on the shelved merchandise - mainly hardware items. The merchandise is priced at 50% or less off of regular retail. They also have very good prices on cleaning supplies.
Excellent prices on appliances like ranges, washers, dryers, etc. They also have a big selection of vanities at half price or less versus the big box retailers.
They purchase a lot of returned and surplus from big box retailers and Amazon. Many returns that Amazon receives and does not resell ends up at a liquidation store like this.
I guess the business model works, but it sure would be nicer if they could bring order to their merchandise presentation.
Additional comments:
They really need a larger location. A lot of floor space is taken up with things like bulk paper products. Sales on hardware & home improvement items on the east wall of the store would increase significantly if they were better organized.
. Rather than having huge boxes of towels and washcloths displayed at the front of the store, I would bring the large boxes of higher dollar merchandise into this prime location.
They start preparing the bins for the sale that starts on Friday on Tuesday or Wednesday. This merchandise is roped off and is not for sale. The bin sale works good for one or two days after that, it's a junk in the tables. The boxes have been ripped open and the components dumped in the table. There is so much lost and wasted merchandise.
The only reason I go into the store is because of the deep discounts on cleaning supplies, hardware items, home decor, and appliances .I would buy a lot more merchandise here if it was displayed properly and I didn't have to dig through it to find...
Read moreWent to the store and I have to say it was truly very upsetting. Was looking at items and the prices seem to just be random. Same items different prices. I wanted to ask for help but seemed like if I didnât speak a certain language people werenât helpful. And guess what, I understand that different language even if I look a different ethnicity. Lol so when people say things itâs truly hilarious. But we will leave it at that. Got to the register and the person in the front bought so many items (a lot) but seemed to get a great discount. So I asked can I get that kind of discount and I got a nasty look at me. To the bottom of it, people arenât friendly for certain individuals and the prices are very different for the...
