Had to revise my review from several months ago (right before COVID) due to how poorly it has declined in the past 18 months. The place that prided themselves on promoting the "no judgement zone" mantra only cares about $$, not protecting it's customers or providing a relaxed environment. The lunkhead buzzer's use is nonexistent, so it is not unusual to hear/see weights being banged around and loud phone convesations taking place.
The latest, most blatant abuse of the rules occurred tonight (8/22/21) with a member conducted a "board meeting" in the locker room while cleaning up and changing. As most PF shower rooms, the acoustics are superb. So everyone (whether they wanted to or not) was subjected to a 25-minute Zoom call between corporate buddies. The other board members on the call even told the member "don't take a shower right now, please". He did anyway. 10 minutes into the call, I informed the staff, reminding them that cellphone conversations were only allowed in the lobby. The staff just shrugged and mistakenly cited PF's rule against using cameras in the gym as a type of "loop-hole". But I pointed out that the sign on the locker room wall was pretty specific. Regardless, they only spoke to the member as he exited the gym, and only because he was still on the conference call as he passed the front desk.
As I left, I spoke to another member who has witnessed many similar acts. He also spoke about his dissatisfaction with a growing number of outdated/damaged equipment, broken fans, and security concerns. If you're committed to staying at PF, I suggest you find another location. As far as I know, they still have security issues at this location, and they have no plans to add cameras or security at night. My car was broken into in 2019, and I'm still waiting for a response from corporate about what they did, plan to do about security. As far as I know, they have no intention of ever responding.
If PF has a difficult time with me posting the image of the locker room sign, I would love to hear why. Members post pics of themselves on Twitter all the time. I'm just posting this to remind them of their own rules. I hope things turn around soon, otherwise these bad reviews...
Read moreI really want to like Planet Fitness, but they are making it very hard. I visited East Washington location at the end of October to sign-up after being told by another Planet Fitness that I could use my ID to wave the annual fee since I am a front line worker. After arriving, I was told by the front desk people they had never heard such a promotion and they would check with the General Manager. Fast forward to the weekend of the Thanksgiving, I decided to just join, but I asked the same question again, and again I was told they had not heard of it. The young men (four of them), told me to have a seat and fill out forms on the tablet, which I did, then one walked up and proceed to tell me to hold off just incase the GM says no. He did not want me to be mad, if I could not get the annual fee waved. The young man started playing 20 questions with me about the conversation...who did I speak with, which PF did I call; and I gave him everything...I have a witness to both conversation. I completed the forms, paid my money, and returned to the front desk to the gaggle of young men. These are the people responsible for selling people on the gym when people visit...I had to ask for a tour!!!! The tour was thirdrate at best which included another guy pointing at areas, but he did walk us through the equipment. We were told to sign up for the PF App, but not told what to use for the barcode. I never received a call from the GM answering my questions which I was told would happen. Now for the cherry on top, I call today and spoke to the trainer to get help with the app login. I explained my unhappiness, and I get nothing from her other than she knows there are complaints about the weekend people and the GM and Asst GM will be changing in the next couple of months. I can live with paying the annual fee, but I can not deal with the lack of respect, poor customer service, and just collecting my money without proper service. I certainly hope my first work-out is...
Read moreVery clean, good staff. I really like how not-crowded it usually is.
The other day I was there, there's like, definitely something wrong with at least one seated leg press machine. One of the the locking pins works itself out of the hole after 10-20 reps of moderate weight. That made my knees fly upward and the weights slam down. I told someone, and they said it happens regularly, and it's because i didn't press the pin in place fully.
I thought the same thing the first time it happened, so I deliberately pushed the pin in all the way, and then it happened a second time.
The employee said it happens regularly, and it's due to user error. But I am very confident that is not the case. I did some reps and watched the machine, and every time your knee pushes up, on that bar, the pin gets upward pressure, and then when you release it gets downward pressure, and the gap between the bar and the rest of the machine hole varies between 1-3 mm with each rep. I know this sounds crazy, but it gets "walked" out of the hole. Each rep pushes the pin like 0.5mm into the shaft and out of the hole, and the spring isn't strong enough to push it back out on the "other" end of the rep. The shaft containing the pin is "grippier" on the pin and the hole is "slippier" when there is constant upward or downward perpendicular pressure on the pin (it's never neutral) so after a dozen or so reps the pin is barely in the hole and the bar flys upward. I demonstrated this to the employee and she was very adamant that she sees/hears it happen all the time and there's nothing wrong with the machine because the maintenance...
