I hate to say it, but I will no longer eat here.My boyfriend introduced me to this place 2 years ago, and since then, we have gone very frequently. It is the BEST place for rice and all their entrees are always delicious and plentiful. The women who work there are so nice and they always remember us. For the past 2 years, we have said nothing but good about Fast Wok. Today (December 18th, 2012) we went in at around 4:00 PM to get our usual. I get a regular of szechuan chicken, and he got a combo of garlic chicken and beef pepper steak. We decided to eat in, and immediately when I opened my box, I was hit with an intense aroma of something similar to dirty dish water. I tried a bite and it tasted differently as well. It was inedible. I was really upset, because it was the first time I felt like I had to ever complain about the food here. I asked my boyfriend if he could go up to the counter to get me beef pepper steak instead to replace my meal, since I didn't eat anything but one bite of my meal. When he went up there to complain, it turned into such a huge deal. He tried to be nice about it, and not compare the smell to dirty dish water in front of the other customers in line, so he just said it was different than usual. The lady that I am assuming was the boss, seriously defended the szechuan chicken, saying there was nothing different about it. She asked for me to talk to her, and I told her it didn't smell how it normally does, because I get it all the time. She made me try the beef pepper steak to make sure I liked it, even though I told her we have had that before too. I assured her that the beef pepper steak was fine, and then she said, VERY loud, "Good, because I WILL NOT do this again for you! And I must be crazy, or you are pregnant, because nothing has changed with the szechuan chicken!" She said this in front of all of the customers, embarrassing me. All I wanted was to replace my meal. And she got so angry at us for complaining for the first time in 2 years. She basically called me crazy, and made me feel horrible for saying anything in the first place. I am sorry that we respected you guys well enough to not say what it really smelled like in front of the other customers, but now I am personally offended by the way the management handled the situation, and publicly embarrassed me. We took the beef pepper steak and walked out. My boyfriend and I have decided we will no longer eat here, due to the intense rudeness we just...
Read moreI would honestly like to just thank Fast Wok. Thank you for all of your years of service and for serving all of your customers with amazing food and putting smiles on all of our faces. Fast Wok was open for 30+ years and ever since i was first born and my mom took me there, I loved it; so much to choose from, all great and fresh food and such nice people that run the place. When mama had a stroke a few years ago and fast wok had to close for a few years, there was so many people missing their food and hoping mama was okay. Then, on November 1st, 2023 Fast Wok re-opened; and it truly showed how Indianapolis can act. The lines were so long, people threatening people with guns, just so they can cut in line for some food, people fighting, and some people ordering so much food when they finally got up to the ordering area. I'm sorry, but if you're ordering like 6 or 8+ meals, there is something wrong with you. The limit when they re-opened Fast Wok should've just been like 4 or MAYBE 5. And apparently someone ordered a whopping 35 meals... if that is true, please tell me why the hell you need that many meals?! You aren't eating all that by yourself I'm sure and I really hope that wasn't for a birthday party or something. 🤦♂️ But all this just shows how pathetic people can act/be over the simplest things. People literally threatening others over some FOOD is just scary and so sad. 😔 So I would just like to give another thanks to Indianapolis, (specifically the ones acting like psychos), for taking away yet another place in my heart, and many others. I grew up going to Fast Wok alot, it always put a smile on my face when I'd go in there. But as of now, I will never be able to experience that again. So thanks to all the people who gotta take away people's favorite places from others who grew up with it and loved it. Because of the psychos, Fast Wok was only able to stay open 3 days... Couldn't even stay open the 2nd day of the re-opening because the server had to stay there until like 1-4am... So Fast Wok couldn't even open back for a week, lots of us weren't even able to enjoy it one last time. So thanks for all of the years of being open mama, thanks for putting smiles on our faces with all of your delicious food, but I'm sorry you had to deal with all of these psychos for the last 3 days of being open. Thank...
Read moreThere is a distinct lack of ambience. There is a long line that moves through like a cafeteria and you only have a choice of what food is made that day. They have the rotating menus posted, but the print is tiny and, if you have poor eyesight like I do, you run the risk of ordering something they don't serve that day which will result in you getting barked at rudely from behind the counter. You are expected to magically know what they have and have your full order prepared before you approach the counter. The regulars don't seem to mind the rushed atmosphere or the way the food is slopped into styrofoam containers, but if you are a new diner, you may feel intimidated as there is clearly a "system" and no one bothers to explain it. Definitely don't try to customize anything. If, God forbid, you want white rice instead of fried rice like the lady in front of me, at least one regular will complain loudly because that means one of the three people working the counter will have to go back to the kitchen to get it. They do not have soup or fortune cookies, but you will receive a complimentary bag of fried wonton wrappers with your order. Oh, and they do not take credit or debit cards. Bring cash and have it ready before approaching the counter.
If you manage to hang on through through the ordering process, you will find the food pretty good for the price. The rangoons were expertly fried and not greasy at all. It is a little disappointing that they are only cheese with no crab (clearly stated on the menu so they aren't trying to put anything over on anyone,) but at $1.45 for an order of five, you can't really complain. My entree was good with a reasonable amount of heat. The meat was tender and the veggies weren't overcooked I would have preferred more veggies and less meat but since that's the exact opposite of what most people want, I can't fault them there either. It's a good amount of food for the cost and it certainly filled me up. It is not, as some have claimed, the best Chinese food anywhere, but it's better than most options for take-out on the Eastside. I'm just not sure it's good enough to balance out the awkward and uncomfortable...
