Even though this store is the nearest to my house, it's selection is a bit subpar. It's a nice area but what gets brought in must be terrible because the quality of selection is a lot less than other area HPBs, and I've been to all of them. I won't be back after the pandemic anyway. I used to travel a lot and congratulated myself on having visited every HPB at least once. I went so much I was friends with some of the staff at different stores. Now during COVID-19, the bookstore is closed but I've reached out to some of those people and have been broken-hearted. While junior employees were furloughed, more senior employees have been fired and told if they re-apply they'll start with no seniority and their benefits will "reset". I liked going to HPB because I felt that even though they were big, they were like a local bookstore, but bigger. I used to accept the low prices for used books as a way to help keep the store open and employees paid. Now I realize I'm just going to another corporation that treats their employees like expendable garbage when profits are important. I realize this was a great time to do this because customers didn't get to see that all of a sudden a bunch of the employees were gone and wonder why. I also imagine they are hoping that they employees they call back will be desperate enough to keep their jobs they'll keep their mouths shut. I've probably spent $20,000 at HPB over the last 10 years and I'm ashamed now. I won't ever be back. It's time to go to look for some "real"...
Read moreI ordered a book from here, very reasonably priced which I was pretty pumped to get. When I got it it looked like the packaging had been friction burned and about half the book was fused together. Not their fault at all, that's the post office and I understand that. I called them and they said they would be happy to replace it if I would bring it in. I made the 2 hour drive from Waco to return the book under the premise it would be EXCHANGED. When I got here I wad told they would have to order another copy and it would be another week. No attempt was made to make up for my losses here. I was planning on starting the adventure for my group on Friday so I offered to buy the damaged copy of the book and made an offer of $5 because I was going to have to steam the pages apart and it would be pretty much worthless after that but it would get me through until the other copy got here. I was told they would have to talk to the manager and he wasn't there. They could have offered expedited shipping or any number of things and I would have been fine. In 20 years of customer service I have never seen a business care less as to how displeased a customer was. 2nd and Charles is a much...
Read moreWe would've given a higher rating but the personnel at this location were just distasteful in every way possible! We were there for several hours and asked to take photos for this review, but they declined and told us no phots and to call their corporate location to speak to marketing! Needless to say, they never would answer after 16 calls! So we went ahead and took photos anyway! As you can tell, it's set up like all other books stores within the chain! I heard a few of the offers to people who brought books in and they were dirt cheap as most of the stores are also. The selection was good, but I did find several books that were water or liquid damaged and were on the shelf to be sold. They probably could've been trashed as they had duplicates available. The areas were marked with signs from above. The carpet was trashed in the store like all other stores, which I expected. I do wish the employees were a little more understanding and helpful along the way. Unfortunately, we won't visit this...
