Big Guy Catering — Local services in Jackson

While I realize catering, and any small business is difficult, I know because I have them myself, what I experienced with Big Guy Catering was shockingly bad. They screwed up every aspect of a 200+ party wedding reception and while being shown and told in REAL time, they had no choice but to acknowledge their errors, which were so blatantly bad they promised to "make it up", INCLUDING the owner (Ella) offering to make an insurance claim that would've negated the entire charge of the debacle, and YES, it was that bad. Understaffed, terrible food that was brought out cold and insufficient for number of attendees! They did absolutely NOTHING right. One might ask where this took place... was it out in the woods or some remote location... NOPE; downtown Jackson Michigan at the Commonwealth center where they had everything at their disposal they could've needed. Coming back to the empty and fraudulent claim of being able to serve that many people, when it was brought to their attention, the owner (Ella) attempted to apologize when her efforts of looking for a scapegoat were realized to be futile. Promises of refunds and credits were floated for what was already a FULLY paid for event. So, after being left alone by me to deliberate what and how much of this would be refunded, weeks turned into months and instead of doing the right thing, or making ANY effort towards that end, the position they decided to take was "were not offering anything"... In looking back, I can not figure out where they did anything reasonable in this process. Even when they hassled for payment IN ADVANCE, when called with a credit card, twice they were unable to take the payment as something was "wrong with their system". In good conscious I couldn't recommend them to serve a party of one. Terrible decision made by us to utilize Big Guy Catering, so hoping no one else gets to go through that either. I would've been better served ordering McDonalds, cooking myself, asking people to bring their own food instead of trusting this pathetic outfit. Do not waste your time with this company. They will “forget” to call you back on a SCHEDULED appointment to go over details for your wedding. Actually they had no intention of calling me for my appointment because they “lost” my account information. Since my wedding was off season, they wanted nothing to do with me. They wanted me to rent my own chafing dishes from All Stars. They only wanted to drop off the food and go. They were not interested in being a full service catering service my local wedding. In fact, they decided to not even send me a quote! What a mistake for a business. Call someone else, the biggest thumbs down I have ever experienced for customers service.

We were never told that the date wasn’t available. If so, I would have never attempted to call back for the appointment you guys set up. It was rude that your catering service wouldn’t even answer to my cell phone number. But you would answer my soon to be mother in-laws phone. We did ask for quotes for full service and the drop and go. Never got a quote for either or.

100% recommend, and I have!! I booked Big Guy Catering for my wedding this past summer for 150 guests over an hour away from their location. They were very accommodating to things like, me getting pregnant during my planning process and no longer able to eat certain things. Ella especially was also very helpful from the very beginning until it was all done with great, warm communication, professionalism and a warm heart. Something a Bride to be can appreciate from a vendor. She made sure to meet me a month ahead to check out the venue to make sure she had everything she needed in the space provided and that was very refreshing being that I’m over an hour away. Day of: perfect! Everything was on time. Cocktail hour was beautifully set and available for guests as I and my party took pictures. They coordinated with the colors of my wedding decor. The food was SO good. Whatever they put in those green beans made them a hit. Lol. I was satisfied. My guests were satisfied and my wedding was a success all around. Thank you again Big...
