Last night I ate dinner with my family and then went upstairs to peek on the new honky tonk.
First appearance glance I felt like I shouldn’t have been there. I was dressed in sweats and a sweater and honestly it felt a bit too “fancy” for me for start. Then came service time, I had a reservation booked under my husband and there was no where for us to sit. We waited 35 minutes passed our reservation time for a table to become available in the bar area at a high top (okay whatever). Then came our “waitress” Kate. The girl was high on the job!!! Didn’t seem like a weed high either, she was completely unaware of anything going on around her!! I watched my husbands drink for 23 minutes sit at the bar with no pickup while her other 2 tables were about to walk out next to us. The new assistant general manager I think her name was Bree handled it well and gave us a server that exceeded our expectations more than we could ask for and she made it right with our bill for the wait times and the inconsistency of our waited out reservation and kept checking in to ensure we were great. She also took on a table next to us until passing it to the same badass server. A male server by the name of Matt and his trainee. Shout out to you 3!!!!!! But while that was going on, the general manager took on the opposite table that was our previous servers and I overheard her bad mouthing the other server to that table, not sure who does that. Or continues to speak bad about their staff to any guest. This isn’t our first time here and we’ve seen her act outrageously towards her entire staff and get into their faces. I also watched her make a chef at the dessert table cry. She should have been the one fired. Not only humiliating her staff in front of guests but acting the way she does is going to make anyone’s experience a bad one. Please do better!!
The honky tonk upstairs- NO COMPLAINTS. You rocked it and I’d come back anytime.
Quick honest note to the owners of oak+iron fire your general manager, the way the staff was after each interaction we seen with her shows who she really is.
EDITED COMMENT: We joined you on Saturday. We got to see Bree again, when we told her who we were she instantly remembered. This time around, no yelling at employees, no making guests feel unwelcomed, this time around no fancy extra things. The hosts get your silverware and the menu for you. No glasses on tables and I seen a lot of variations of people in different clothes. You listened and acted and acted some more. Even the employees were dressed more casual. To the owners, I’m grateful and have updated my review to reflect the changes you have made. Bree informed me there was more to come. A bit of a wait at the door but 100x better!! Jackson and surrounding areas will be to visit. I have made my input. Thank...
Read moreWe had an excellent experience on the first official night that Oak + Iron opened for business. Chanel, our server, was friendly and attentive. I had a manhattan, which was delicious - perfectly balanced although a bit light on the pour. My wife enjoyed a generous portion of Chardonnay. I started with the wedge salad, which was very flavorful, and nicely topped with dressing, bacon and tomatoes - although a bit light on the actual wedge. It was the best tasting wedge I’ve had in a while.
She had the salmon, which she said was delicious, and I had a NY strip, which was cooked to perfection. The twice-baked potatoes were a bit overdone, but flavorful, and the broccoli wit Parmesan was very tasty. Chanel kept our water glasses filled, and checked on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying everything.
Charlene also stopped by to ensure our evening was going well, and we had a very nice conversation with her.
We shared a crème brûlée for dessert, which was also delicious and prepared to perfection.
The biggest delight was when the bill came: the prices were very reasonable, and the total bill was what we would expect to pay for a salad, a pizza, and a couple of drinks at other places.
We made a reservation for next Fridayon our way out tonight. We fully expect this will be a regular spot for us...

Steak should not taste like it has pineapple syrup on it. AND it's easier to get the cook right with a thicker cut. I won't get that again. The curry dish was packed with flavor. OH yea.. stop serving white rice... lmao. there are many options besides a pile of white rice next to a 50 dollar steak. it's completely flavorless. try... Rice pilaf, risotto, herb red pot, baked mac, don't forget where you are. Jackson is pure blood working middle class. meat and potatoes.
ALL good chefs know this..... SAUCE.. it ties the dish together. SAUCE... it would have done wonders for the pile of white rice. lol
service was great once you got past the front door help. that was short of annoying.
SERVE GREAT FOOD AND...
