Whatever you do, do not sign that membership contract or listen to anything they try to promise you. In the end, they will look for any way to squeeze every last dollar out of you.
When signing up for the membership I made them aware that I was waiting to hear back from an internship program 3 hours away and asked if i ended up moving in the future would they be able to cancel it for me. The lady at the desk assured me yes that as long as i sent them my lease they would, as long as i was 25 miles away from the nearest location. (i'm 127 miles away now for reference). So after moving down at the beginning of June, I tried sending emails to get them to cancel it, sure enough with no response i was charged the monthly draft of 37 dollars at the end of June. I try again in July, still no answer. Finally since the payment was going to be pulled again, I called the location directly to only be told they couldn't do anything and I had to go through corporate. Fine. I call corporate and explain the situation including the fact that i've been trying to reach them for over a month, and they demand I pay another month's draft plus a 50 dollar moving fee, and if when they try to take it out it declines, another late fee and they would charge me the full rest of my membership until January or send it to collections eventually. After explaining that me, a college student far from home, doesn't just have 87 dollars to just give away, i was told that my only other option is to let my membership keep going until I could "scrape some money together" and they would keep taking the monthly payments and I could pay the 87 dollars eventually.
They don't care about your situation, moving, or if you even have access to use the membership, as long as they get extra money out of you. Even if you cancel because you cant afford to keep giving them free money, you end up having to give them free payment anyways, almost 100 dollars at that....
Read moreI'm sorry to have to give Bailey's only one star, not because of the gym itself- the equipment, instructors, and facilities are fine. The many locations and class variety are great. The problem comes when you wish to cancel your membership,
Ask around- you would be shocked at how many people have been charged an extra month when giving thirty days notice and many more fraudulent financial practices. This happened to me the last time I had a membership, and I swore not to ever join again. Well, I did (like a shmuck), and the head dude at the Jax Beach location told me (lied) that even if I signed a 2 year contract for the lower monthly fee, I could pay 50 bucks and give a month's notice to cancel anytime. So of course, I said why wouldn't I pay a lower price if there's only a fairly small penalty to pay if I cancel? And most gyms now will let you cancel with a month's notice, so I believed it....well guess what happened? I called the corporate office to cancel, and was told " sure you can cancel, but you have to pay the remaining year on your contract." " Oh no, you don't understand. The head dude at Jax Beach told me I only needed to pay 50 bucks and give a month's notice." I'm sure you can figure out the rest...he lied to me (and apparently this is part of their business model, since it happens to so many people.) and the corporate person said it was just my word against his word. And guess whose word they are going by? So, all those locations and fancy equipment are partially paid for by gullible folks like me, who believe a man's word. Who does that now?!
So, do not believe that charming, friendly person- get everything in writing. Pay the extra so you won't need a contract. Expect to pay an extra month even if you give the 30 day notice if you cancel. As long as you don't need to cancel, it's a great gym. I guess it's just the way business is done now, but it feels dishonest to...
Read moreWould give zero stars if possible. Do not sign up with any Baileys Gyms period. While most of the staff may be friendly, the stories about collection agencies and contracts are true. I paid my bills on time and enjoyed the gym for over a year, but after a distant move I went in and showed proof of my new address and was assured by the staff (which a normal person would assume was acting as agent for the business) that it was sufficient to cancel. I paid my appropriate cancellation fee ($50 at the time) and was told everything was cancelled. 6 months later I get a call from a collection agency for the remaining contract balance. THIS IS COMMON BUSINESS PRACTICE FOR THEM - STAY AWAY. Apparently there would have been 10 months left, and the whole 10 month balance was turned in after 6 months, BEFORE the remaining 4 months would have been due (AFTER I was told the contract was legitimately cancelled). I STILL receive constant advertisement emails from Baileys - yet not one email during that time warning of 'delinquent' payments (but they obviously have my contact information). They handle their contracts this way to avoid having to deal with clients - once they hand it off to collections (after 6 months of you thinking you had cancelled), they are off the hook, sell your "debt" to collection agency, and you have no options. Baileys Gym / Health Club Corporate is the epitome of a company practicing business in bad faith. Do not listen to what the gym employees assure you of - no matter what they say their statements are not binding and they do not represent the company that you are signing a...
