Mayday! Mayday! Best ice cream in Jax! Worth the 25min drive!
Our experience at Mayday Ice Cream and Alanis’s service was so spectacular that it made me take a break from my crazy busy work/holiday schedule to write this review!
Background- Since moving to Jax 2020, I have missed all the gourmet ice cream in LA, Portland, Seattle, & DC— Cool Haus, Salt n Straw, Jeni’s, van leeuwen— but then Mayday and Alanis came into our lives!!!!! Woooo hoooo!
This place has diverse, unique gourmet flavors that surpass the best of the best, gourmet ice cream makers!
Things like Canada - a seasonal, fall celebration of maple flavors… or like Caramel Apple Pie - real chunks of apple pie in it! Or a regularly available (Thank god!) flavor called Queen’s Salted Caramel- simply THE BEST caramel ice cream ever known to humankind!!!!
They had a bourbon pecan pie flavor, a marshmallow flavor, a divine Bkackberry Crisp w a buttery brown sugar oak crisp flavor, coffee flavor, Mint chocolate flavor, and delicious Banana pudding flavor just to name a few of my favorites.
Cool part? It was our FIRST time, and Alanis was soooooo helpful and patient with us. She allowed us to sample a bunch so we could buy a scoop and pick up some pints for home.
I don’t think I’ve ever spent this much money on ice cream in one stop (because of our take home pints), but it’s been worth every penny since our visit last week! It was also worth the 25minute drive each way!
Great flavors! Great service! So good I am writing this review pre-Christmas crazy schedule days!
Love, love, love Mayday Ice Cream! ...

First off, their unique flavors are made out of Daytona Beach and the flavors are interesting concoctions. So interesting and intriguing that I kept asking to sample different flavors- well actually, THEY kept offering - and I had never sampled that many flavors before, so I felt bad saying yes, haha!
I got the two-scoop option and after a lengthy deliberation (by the way - you can also get half scoop flavors - so if you get the one scoop option .. you can get two flavor halves to make a whole.. and so forth).. I finally decided on the Aviator (which is Nutella + biscoff cookies - cleverly named after the biscoff cookies you often get on a plane) + Cloud 9 (think traditional wedding cake with its dominant almond flavor, add marshmallow fluff).
I definitely cannot wait to come back to try more flavors. The others I tried were Gillespie's Bourbon Pecan (21+), Brown Butter Chocolate Chip cookies, key lime pie + queen salted caramel. Alllll were delicious. p.s... they don't skimp on their scoops either.
The service was just fantastic...
Read moreI agree with some of the comments about feeling like the owners are too concerned with penny pinching and cutting corners rather than continuing what they’ve done so well since they opened (I’ve been going to the Jax beach location since day one). My latest experience was not good… The employees were not as friendly as usual, and apparently they have made the change to make you pay for each flavor you want to eat in your bowl. (They used to allow you to split scoops). On top of that, some of their flavors melt really fast, so I used to order a small size in a larger bowl, which apparently is a newly frowned upon request (remember- sarcastic tone- friendly employees) and now they’ve changed/cheapened their containers, so it melted all over by the time I got to my home less than a mile away… I guess I should just be one of those people who tries every flavor for free for 10 minutes at the front of the line instead of the owner/employees just splitting a scoop a couple different ways like they used to… I will not be back anytime soon since oh, prices have also...
