I am split on this place... Part of me loves to go in and buy a bag of books and not break the bank... But don't think about selling your books or you'll be ticked off like me.... I brought in three huge bags of books and they wanted to give me peanuts for them... Example they had a rpg book up by the checkout for 150 bucks, I thought I have the whole set from that series which was like 20 books total.... They wanted to give me less than 20 bucks for all of them.... Less than a dollar a book and ur gonna sell one for 149 bucks profit... Ummmmmm no... I get they need to make a profit but at some point it becomes highway robbery.... If they gave me 25% I would of felt like it was ok.... But it wasn't even a whole percentage point.... Even if they offered 10% I could have justified it somehow, but when you tell me to grab my ankles without even an offer of a kiss, well.......... So yes I stopped going in there, only reason I was in there this week was someone else was driving and I didn't wanna sit in the car.... I refuse to give them a dime now.... I had a graphic novel special edition that was like 50 bucks new, I read it one time and put it back in the box.... They will sell it for 25 bucks, what do you think they offered me..... Ten percent wld be two fifty.... They offered me less than a dollar.... Less than a buck.... Ten percent they wld of made 22.50 in profit.... But they wanted to make over 24 bucks.... Again I get you need to make profit but come on.... At some point you went from a capitalist to a robber barron and think it's ok.... So yeah I stopped going there... I'd rather go buy it new and throw it in the fireplace than to let them make a dime... In fact I hope they go under and then read this and know why.... I have told everyone I know that is a reader about my experience there... And I used to go in there weekly.... I know I spent 20 to 100 bucks every month like clockwork and I always felt great doing it but when I saw the other end of the business it made me sick.... My books are bought read once then put on a shelf, worst thing to happen to them might be dust.... No bent over pages because I'm too lazy to use a bookmark or bent up covers cause I wanna use one hand.... Nothing like that, 98% look like new so it wasn't a condition issue it was a greed issue... Ok I have to stop cause I'm getting ticked off again.... I'd rather but them new and used them for insulation in the attic or burn them for heat than to support this company...
Read moreMy go to book place and this store is my favorite location! I absolutely love Half Price Books. I tend to spend $50 to $75 every time. Never fails lol. I am going there this weekend to get even more books that I found on their website (I dont want to pay shipping). Speaking about the website, I ordered a book for my mom and it was sent to her flawlessly. She received it fairly quickly. Be careful about shipping though because it can add up. I have 5 books in my cart and it says I have to pay $20 in shipping because the books are in different states. If you can go into the store then totally worth getting it there. There is not normally a crowd in there so you have space and every time I go, I see everyone is abiding by the covid rules. All the associates that have helped me are awesome and nice and I have no major complaints. The only thing I would say that Half Price Books needs is a mobile app and a rewards card. They get most of my spending money every month so I would get a ton of rewards ;) My goal is to buy enough books that my children and I want to read and have our own little libraries in our bedrooms. This store will help us achieve that goal!...
Read moreGreat place to take your old books. The idea that they are somewhere giving another person a chance to read them.
Problem is, that while I was waiting for them to give me an offer, they push you away from the desk to go shop. I really didn't want to shop as my husband was waiting for me in the car but ki browsed around. Figured I check out the prices of the used books. Now granted, they have to make money but $4 for a beat up book which probably cost $5 in its day, I thought quite pricey. I did see some for $2.50 to $7. Pending on how worn out they were. I looked mostly at the sci-fi genre, star wars/star trek stuff. I actually saw a hard cover Star Wars book going for $25! Granted, it looked in great shape behind the locked cabinet, but $25 for used?
Thought maybe I might make a little money for the 40+ books I brought in. They were in very good condition. They offered $18.32. So yes, they are making quite a bit of money when...
