Aside from the concierge staff who is great; this place is a nightmare.
From a Sales Team that makes promises and can't deliver (nor cares after they've signed you), to a third party "valet" parking service (which is mandatory, but will hold your car hostage if you don't show them your lease immediately - illegal but true), this place is all kinds of terrible.
We were given a free month at the beginning of our lease, and when I called a week in advance to schedule, they had us moving in a month later. Then I had to call sales to get them to weigh in, and our "free month" turned into a free 25 days b/c the unit wasn't going to be ready in time (apparently Dane in sales dropped the ball here). Then, we moved in, and our oven had been used (this was a brand new unit when we moved in, no previous renters), and the grease in the bottom set off the smoke detectors both in the apartment, and in the hallway for over 30mins. Not one call from maintenance though - very safe. And, I had to have the building come in to do a THOROUGH cleaning AFTER move-in, b/c apparently there had been parties hosted in our unit prior, and no one thought to clean appropriately.
In addition, they put this place together so fast that nothing is well-made. For example: our floors dip in the middle, our trash cabinet door doesn't open unless you pull with your entire body weight, the freezer handle comes off every other time we pull it open, the smoke detectors go off when you use the stove/oven more often then not, and for the price ($2500+ for 1 BRs and up), there's very little that management is doing to keep tenants happy - though I have heard people have received a YEAR of free parking if the complained enough. Interesting. Nevermind the fact that the parking is PUBLIC as well, and anyone can park in the garage via valet, and come into the building at any time. No keys, no fobs, etc.
There's a nice common area on the 8th floor where you'll at least meet some great people who live in the building. But the dog run that's up there now mandates dogs be kept on leash (so no longer a dog run as originally promised). And it's also filled with little pebbles which in addition to being terrible on dog paws, is also a nightmare in the hallways as the pebbles are trekked in by the hour. Have I mentioned the gates to the dog park are also jenky, and consistently open on their own?
Not a great experience here by any means, and after having lived in another City Homes & Gardens property - this place is beyond...
Read moreDO NOT LIVE HERE!! I have never wanted to be this person, but this is also because I have never HAD to be this person. Since moving in to CastIron Lofts there have continuously been problems- problem after problem. Last year it was the elevators that went down at least once a week. Mind you I live on the top floor so walking up and/or down 21 flights of stairs is not easy or fun. Sometimes we wouldn’t even get a courtesy email letting us know, so it would just be a gamble walking to the elevator on your floor like “will it be broken or working this time?” I will say the elevator situation has gotten a lot better, now it only breaks down maybe once every 2 months. The other annoying thing is maintenance. Our sink was leaking and our showers were clogged (this happens often, as well), so we placed a maintenance request for both problems to be fixed. Once they finally came to fix it (after like 3-4 days this one instance) they fixed the sink but did not fix our showers. So we had to place a maintenance request again. Every time one thing breaks, they finally fix it and then something else breaks!!! This brings me to another point of something that was broken. The parking garage door this morning! I was leaving for work and the garage literally had me and my roommate blocked in the parking garage. We were told that there was a power outage and they were “working on it” (same sob story we got as when the elevators were down once a week). I went to the front lobby to ask for a supervisor/ manager’s number and the lady at the front desk told me she’s “not authorized to give out their phone number.” So I was left to literally wait there until the door opened and I could leave the parking garage and go to work. Thankfully that happened promptly (but I was told that the door wasn’t working for 1.5 hours). I must also mention that the parking garage costs $285 per month :) Lastly if this wasn’t enough, the icing on the cake is the pool policy. Monday-Thursday is free but Friday, Saturday, and Sunday EACH guest costs $20 to bring to the pool. And you have to email management prior to bringing your guest. God forbid you just show up to the pool without sending an email! It hasn’t been 200% horrible living here but I would strongly consider these things before moving in- just be prepared to deal with multiple maintenance and other issues that you wouldn’t have to deal with anywhere else. That...
Read moreI lived in Cast 1 for 5 years. When we moved in, cast iron was a great apartment to be in. Great amenities, beautiful building, all for an unbeatable price in the jersey city/Hoboken location.
5 years later, the building has recently changed management and increased most residents rent 10-25% in a single year. Previously rent would either stay the same, or go up $50.
The rent prices are as high as all the other BRAND NEW buildings in the same 800 ft diameter location, yet the building is 7+ years old, has less amenities than every other building in the area.(in cast 1 you have to go down to the first floor, and walk through a dirty maze of service corridors just to get to a separate pool elevator. Cast iron has had years to at least make this corridor feel like you are in the same building instead of Freddy Kruegers nightmare, but nothing has changed.)
The garage prices are extremely high. And yet, everyone I know has had one of their LOCKED bicycles stolen. And somehow NONE of the security cameras ever see the people cutting the locks and stealing the bikes.
Lastly, and this is the biggest cause for this review, the elevators are ALWAYS broken. 5 years ago maybe one elevator would break down for a few hours every few months. In the past 6 months, a single elevator has broken down for an entire month, 2 separate times! Leaving ALL residents to wait 5-10 mins to get into one elevator and stop on every floor. Then even that other elevator seems to break down every few days leaving an entire building of residents in a luxury building, walking up and down up to 20+ flights of stairs just to leave the building.
All of this, with ever increasing rent prices and NO financial reimbursements or discounts on rent for all the inconveniences.
And these google reviews aren’t the only time management receives this feedback. We send them direct emails and have informed them in person of our dissatisfaction, and nothing is done.
If you are moving into the Hoboken/Jersey city area and want a luxury building with a pool, choose one of the other 20+ buildings that offer the same in...
