I usually don't write reviews but I don't want anyone to experience what I'm dealing with after Melanie destroyed my hair 2 months ago. Every day I regret going to that place and try to avoid mirrors not to be reminded of what I look like now. My hair ended up with whole missing patches where she bleached it (especially on my left side). I did a ton of expensive treatments but it was covered in multiple split ends throughout the length of hair. I've never seen anything like it. A lot of it was literally broken in half and dangling. And unfortunately the damage was all over the length, so I ended up having to cut a lot of hair and get a shag cut. Whatever length I was able to keep is super thin and whispy. After 1st wash the hair turned bright orange with some patches of white grayish blond (I asked for lighter brown balayage). I used color safe gentle products, so it shouldn't have happened. The top left side has 3 thick white pieces while the left looks dark brown overall. So even when I put it in a pony tail attempting to hide it, it still looks ridiculous. I came in with virgin hair, had a consultation prior to main appointment, explained my hair is wavy and I can never use heat in it due to the texture and worrying about damage. I wanted to make sure that she knows how to work with my hair type. I even explained I'm ok to do this in 2-3 treatments over time to limit damage. Clearly she treated my hair as she would treat the straight hair. If you have a strong straight hair you will probably be okay. Although, damage aside, the technique on mine is a disaster. A stylist I came for advice on treatments said "I'm so sorry this happened to you" I told Melanie what happened and she offered to tone/treat my hair. But the thing is, the bleach job is extremely uneven. The only way to tone it is to make it all dark. Or bleach the other side to even it out. Then tone lighter brown. I don't trust this person to do any treatments for obvious reasons. So I'm leaving it as is using good products at home and salon. I need to heal it as much as possible before my stylist attempts to fix the color. From now on I'm only going to reputable salons with multiple stylists. I paid $500 to destroy my hair, bought ton of hair products at Sephora, epress online and need to pay a different stylist to cut, treat and eventually color my hair. I feel bad leaving this review but please think twice about your hair type before going. I'm trying to figure out a way to post...
Read moreI feel so lucky to have met Melanie. I've been a client of her's for over 15 years, and I ALWAYS look and feel great after each appointment. Her hair cuts, blowouts, highlights, balayage, and single process treatments are flawless (yes, I've had them all). I've seen her other clients leave the salon and get more than one admiring glance from people in passing.

I love her new salon: Hair With Reason at Cast Iron Lofts. Melanie put her heart into it, and it reflects how much she wants her clients to be comfortable and have the best experience possible. It's a soothing, uplifting space where you can put the day behind you and focus on refreshing — or totally transforming — your look.
For Hoboken people, take the Light Rail to the 2nd Street stop (so easy from the PATH train or from uptown). From there, there's a bike path that cuts through to the Jersey City side, and makes the walk a little easier and quicker than following the street route. Melanie books up fast, so get on her...
Read moreWell, where to begin. Have you ever met someone so down to earth but able to make sure you look your finest? Lifting you up emotionally and mentally?! That’s Mel. When i first became her client, 10 years ago, she took in a girl who is naturally close to black hair wanting to be blonde. And boy! She did it! Time after time, without damaging my hair and making sure there was dimension and texture. I can be delusional about wanting to be a blonde, but she made sure I had the best healthy lifts. A true artist! Mel techniques are similar as fine art blending together to the point, even on day 3 without wash still looks great and not a grease ball of mess.
What is amazing is, after I put this woman through a ringer of getting me to a level of blonde that most would fry out and cause massive damage, but not Mel!, I gave her the most random demand ever, To make me a level 2-3 dark hair brunette.
Not only didn’t she deliver, SHE WOWED!
If you want a true artist to make your wildest dreams come true, you found...
