Postmaster Gibril M. Baba is the most disrespectful and unprofessional person I’ve ever encountered in a professional setting. He berated Judy, the most respectful and helpful staff member at this location, and loudly threatened to write her up for assisting me in front of everyone.
On Tuesday, January 17, I needed to ship a few packages that required different postages — some with USPS and others with FedEx. On a biweekly basis, I frequent this location, so I’m aware of the services needed. Around 4:15 pm, the line at this location is typically long, but with three to four windows open, it usually dwindles rather quickly.
While standing in line, Gibril asked me if I needed any assistance, and I explained, unfortunately, my services needed completion at the window. With an attitude, he then asked other customers the same question. Shortly, I arrived at the window, and Judy immediately started assisting me. We added insurance to packages, checked rates, and verified information to ensure everything was correct! Moments later, Gibril rudely interrupted us mid-transaction and told Judy to cancel the transaction that was already in progress because it was taking too long. Judy and I both looked at him in utter disbelief. This man demanded someone cancel a transaction that was almost complete. Therefore, we completed the transaction for two packages. Next, he disrespectfully chastised her on the floor! Instead of shipping all three packages with USPS, I took the remainder of my business across the street to FedEx.
If you have $1 to $2 to spare and want to avoid situations like this, just ship with FedEx. Their entire staff is professional! The FedEx staff treated me respectfully and with care.
Judy, Kianna, and a few others are superstar professionals, but as their appointed leader, Gibril’s actions were...
Read moreEveryone has always been polite and helpful at this location. Maybe because I treat them with respect? The place is overheated, though. I could not work there! The bad thing, and this seems to be true of many post offices now, is that there is always an extended wait in line. Bring a magazine to read while you stand there and wait your turn. Each transaction seems to take 10 minutes, perhaps because shipments are being sent internationally and require paperwork. If it is a customers first time doing this, they have to be educated on how to do it all. The postal workers try to keep things moving by telling people what to do and come back to the window with completed forms. When I lived on Fourth Street, I usually got a note saying that I had to pick up a package at the post office- a 15 minute walk each way. Now that I live on 3rd St, they always leave the package if I'm not home. Any real problems, I blame on regional or national management. For example, I used to be able to buy stamps from any of 12 vending machines at the main post office by the World Trade Center. ALL of the vending machines we're removed a few years ago. Now if you want to merely buy stamps, you must wait in line with everyone else (average wait: 30 minutes). At this location there are many tourists, just looking to find out how much it costs to mail a postcard and to buy those stamps. The manager should have at least figured this out years ago and accommodated these people. It would speed up service for everyone! I suppose that they thought everyone could buy stamps on-line, but some people need...

I fell in line, with a question about getting the right branded container that I already printed a label and paid for only to be dismissed by ordering me to go to the corner where all the packages are. Without her hearing my concern, and acknowledging that I already know there was no container there that matched the label I already made, I knew I was likely going to overpay or send my package with labels I wasn’t sure was right or enough. I went to the self-service counter, found out that shipping the branded box required a balance, so I only printed a label with the balance, but now have 2 tracking numbers and 2 labels on my package. I fall in line again, and this time when I ask which tracking number would be considered correct, the lady who acted with such inconvenience over my questions, said blatantly she doesn’t know, she’s where she is and not the one scanning so she can’t tell me. She basically doesn’t care about the value of my package or that I am simply trying to connect with her. In 5 min she managed to erode a customer’s faith over the post office, an establishment that has kept people connected despite distance, simply because she cannot bother to be a bit more human and add the bare minimum of care. I pity her for having no joy in her life that every interaction she had with people today sucked the sunshine out of it. We all have our bad days, but how little effort it took for her...
