Muteki Ramen — Restaurant in Jersey City

New ramen restaurant in JC that is beautiful with alright food but unfortunately I had a poor experience.

Restaurant was near empty when we arrived. We ordered the karaage as an app and the miso volcano ramen and unagidon. App came immediately which was questionable…but it was great. Good breading and tender chicken with a nice Thai sauce. Then came the unagidon which was a good portion. After about 15-20 mins with no one checking on us, I realized two other tables getting their ramen before me so I called for a waiter. Apparently they forgot the order and asking if I really ordered it saying it’s not in the system. I jest, saying no I’m just sitting here without an entree and looking at the other person eat for fun. Imagine making a mistake and trying to blame it on the customer. Management needs to do a better job addressing issues.

The ramen was reasonable, a little more salty than spicy. The noodle felt undercooked with a rough chew. They do give generous toppings which I appreciated.

I was hoping this ramen restaurant would be the “one” in JC but...

Great ramen, friendly service, and only a short walk from home, what's better than that? Muteki has become a regular favorite for us and we visit at least once a week. The ramen is Jersey City’s best and I usually order the tan tan ramen, with minced pork and pork broth, and it is very flavorful. My s.o. orders the tonkotsu ramen which always gets a thumbs up review. A friend who regularly joins us loves the creamy vegetarian ramen, which is thoughtfully prepared and tasty.

Appetizers include pork bao buns, which are yummy, kim chi, sweet potato fries with a tasty spicy creamy dipping sauce, or occasional specials like fried oysters (yum). This is a BYOB spot, but you'll only have to walk 2 minutes to find the beer or wine of your choice. Atmosphere has fun, Tokyo-style decor and J-Pop for music, but service quality really makes the difference. One server always remembers my order and Blanca is incredibly sweet and welcoming. We would travel more distance for Muteki’s great food and service, but lucky for us it is just down the street....

Drop by Muteki Ramen and feel like you're transported from Jersey City to Tokyo. The vibe is amazing, with pieces of Japan everywhere, including the wallpaper of Food Wars! in the bathroom.

The food is excellent - we had the Pan Fried Veg Gyoza (which had unique presentation and were delicious), the Fried Okonomiyaki (slightly different presentation from what I'm used to, but delicious nonetheless), the Thai Green Curry Ramen (yum ramen with succulent pieces of chicken), Yuzu Shio Ramen (super delicious broth, with the chilli oil adding the perfect spicy kick), the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen with pork (sumptuous, with the fatty pork hitting the spot), and the Vegetable Creamy Ramen (another dish that was greatly enjoyed, particularly with some chilli oil). I washed down the ramen and Okonomiyaki with hot Gyokuro matcha tea, which was great.

To top it off, the service was polite and super efficient. All in all, it was a perfect dinner, and we are very glad to have found our go-to for ramen in...
