Beautiful place, But here's the tea. I'm brown, asked what was suggested to try.... was told "anything breakfast, oh and fried chicken". đ wooo, ok. Well. I asked and I guess I'll lose my black card for not preferring fried chicken at a diner. I saw some issues with appetizers being same price and size as the full entree also, things double printed and priced quite high for the item. Overall, makes sense for the area. Waitress was either nervous, or just slack due to the late hour I suppose. Hell, they were leaning across the back table when I walked in. Floor was a bit slippery for my stilettos like WHAO. WALL SLOW, IS THAT GREAE OR A FRESH WAX? Lol. I asked the bust gentlemen for preferences on food and got an amazing breakdown since he came to us b4 the watress, thank goodness he was nice enough to give us great direction. Took his suggestion and ordered a quesadilla that had no taste and barely any steak. Waitress forgot my sides, extra napkins, extra sour cream and boy did the rice and beans look dry, I didn't finish it and had one bite. Didnt even come with a mild salsa and the rice looked like it had tomatoe paste as the Sazon lol. Had vegan chili nachos, man, it was bland,( weird bc it had cheese and need more to make it pop) hell, my soda had so much ice (small cocktail size glass, basically it was water) and we asked for no ice originally. Sat there longer than planned just seeing how long the waitress would really check on and get us gone, she was always spaced out or hesitant. People got food way before us that came later as a large group......đ¤¨"2hours laterrrr" (spongebob voice)WE'RE DOONEEEEE. We were passing our card to gtfo and didn't even care to see the tab, but she wanted to show us anyway lol. Nice..... Listen, I wish I gave the bust man a tip, he had more attentiveness than my waitress and moved quicker, he gave me all the things I asked her for and she forgot. She was nice, but I think really tired lol. We were there early morning so eh.
Overall. I had the grown folk mac n cheese as an appetizer and it filled me as my entree. It was pretty good and just needed pepper! My mates breakfast wasn't bad for them so YAY. prices were Manhattan normal (we're new yorkers) and, if I'm drunk in the city, I'm sure I'd be back lmao. I've had worst service and like I said, I'm sure they were sleepy at 2am even though its their job to look alive. đ¤ˇđžââď¸
Next time, I'll just waste money on the chicken. đ¤
I only give reviews to help make changes were I see deeply needed. This place is beautiful, I just need a better reason to return. Maybe I'll try the rush hour on another day! If you like to gamble, bring ya lawry's and come on...
Read moreA friend and I went to City Diner this morning. It was busy enough and the hostess said there were 2 couples ahead of us. We spotted a few seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there and she said that if the couples didnât take it, we could. Whilst waiting, 12 people came in and a further table for 3. The previous 2 couples were seated and then they sat the 12 people ahead of us. The 3 people asked if they could have the bar and the hostess said yes, at which point my friend and I said we had asked that and she ignored our request. The 3 men were kind and said we were first and the hostess just gave us a look. She led us to the bar but by this point, there were other tables clearing up and we instead said we would like to wait for one of those tables and we asked why the table of 12 was sat before us and the hostess just shrugged and blamed the manager. Mind you, my friend is diplomatic and never one to be rude. She was calm and considered in her challenge. I am not saying race played a part here but at this point, I want to highlight my friend and I are POC. The hostess and all the people sat before us were white. There was a noticeable difference in the way we were treated vs them. I point out again, my diplomatic friend, was never rude but she voiced her irritation and how we were treated which was overheard by another POC who had just walked in who automatically assumed we were being difficult and started apologizing to the hostess for my friend. I, on the other hand am not as diplomatic and I told her where to go and not to apologize if she doesnât know the whole story. To that woman, I hope you see this post and realize it wasnât your place and we were the ones who werenât treated with respect. I would avoid this place if you have any color in you. Clearly, we didnât stay where we were being disrespected...
Read moreMy recent visit to City Dinner left me utterly disappointed and frustrated. From start to finish, it was a series of mishaps and horrendous service that I cannot overlook. I regret to say that this restaurant deserves no more than a single star. First and foremost, the customer service was abysmal. The waitstaff seemed disinterested and untrained, with zero knowledge of the menu or any basic etiquette. They were slow to attend to our needs, and when they finally did, their attitude was dismissive and rude. It felt as if we were inconveniencing them by merely being there. To make matters worse, the food was far from satisfactory. The dishes arrived lukewarm and lacked any semblance of flavor. It was evident that the ingredients used were of low quality, resulting in a tasteless and disappointing experience. Even the simplest of dishes were poorly executed, leaving us wondering how such a culinary disaster could be served in a supposedly reputable establishment. Lastly, the behavior of the owner was nothing short of disgraceful. Instead of addressing the issues and ensuring customer satisfaction, the owner displayed an arrogant and condescending attitude. It was as if our complaints were beneath their notice, and they made no effort to rectify the situation. Such disregard for customer concerns is unacceptable and further tarnishes the reputation of this establishment. Overall, my experience was an absolute disaster. Poor customer service, tasteless food, an agonizing wait, and an owner with a contemptuous attitudeâthis place has it all, in the worst possible way. Save your time, money, and taste buds by avoiding this restaurant at all costs. There are far better dining options available that value their customers and deliver a...
