My big headed, nearly 15 year old travel buddy and I stopped here to learn some more about Montana history, and to add a small part to its story. I worked at Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park during the summer of 1991, and brought a vintage "Jammer" hat to add to their collection. It will be displayed with other hats and uniforms sometime in late '22 and/or early '23. Stop by. Learn some history. Buy something from the gift shop. Make a donation. Enjoy!

The Historic museum gives a lot of good local information about the country side and what it was like back in the late 1800's and in 1900's. I enjoyed learning about Linderman and how big of an impact he had in legislation on acquiring land for the Kooteani tribes and other Native American Tribes. I bought 3 books he's written. Well worth the visit!

Enjoyed this museum. Lots of history. It is small and can be done in less than an hour. The volunteers were super knowledgeable- close to downtown and they have history walks in the summer. Parking was a bit odd and I can see it getting busy in the summer.

I had a fantastic experience at the Northwest Montana History Museum! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the front staff, who were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. They took the time to explain the layout of the museum and provided thoughtful suggestions on which exhibits to start with based on my interests. Their knowledge and friendliness really set the tone for a wonderful visit.

The museum itself is a treasure trove of history. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated and provides a fascinating look into the rich heritage of Northwest Montana. I particularly enjoyed the section on the Native American tribes, which was both informative and moving. The detailed displays and artifacts brought their stories to life in a way that felt respectful and engaging.

Another highlight was the exhibit on the logging and railway industries, which played such a vital role in shaping the region. The interactive elements and historical photographs gave a vivid glimpse into the past. The staff was readily available to answer questions and share additional insights, which added so much depth to the experience.

The museum is also beautifully maintained, with clear signage and a clean, welcoming atmosphere. There’s a small gift shop at the end with unique items, perfect for anyone wanting a keepsake or a gift.

Overall, I can’t recommend the Northwest Montana History Museum enough. It’s a wonderful place for history buffs, families, or anyone curious about the area’s roots. I left with a much greater appreciation for the history and culture of this beautiful region. Thank you to the incredible staff for making my visit...

Multiple levels and rooms of historical exhibits to see and read here. A couple of nice ladies up at the front desk will help direct you to exactly what you want to see if you're in a hurry. If not they give you a little overview of the whole place. The building itself is also awesome! A very Grand and beautiful old school building. Super cool that it got to retire as a museum and not get knocked down to make way for a more modern School. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more the building or the exhibits LOL both are definitely worth your time if you're into history and learning. There's also a lot of green grass to get your kids out of the car for a run or a dog but clean up your doggy doo lots of people...

This is a nice historical museum. It is housed in an old school building that has been converted to a museum. The first floor has a room about Frank Linderman, another about the Native Americans of the local area, a bookstore/shop and topical exhibit. The second floor has a room dedicated to logging, another on the area and what happened to the boom towns, a meeting room and another room with lots of old pictures. I would plan for about an hour. There is a small...
