This used to be the best thrift store in Cabarrus County. Yes, used to be. It has gone downhill ever since they reopened after Cvid. That's part of the problem too - all new staff due to firing the old staff during Cvid times...ones who had been there for years & were so sweet. The new manager is a guy who frequently complains openly about people shopping in the store, has literally complained about having to check my cart of stuff because I "got too much" and it'd take a while to scan it all in (I had maybe 6 books, a couple of shoes and some small nicknacks - it wasn't a lot). He's also changed sale hours - day of - closing early because he felt like it. He does not make people feel welcome to shop there - it's like we're bothering him to be in the store. Also, the pricing has gotten really bad - it's frequently at or above retail now, which is so sad since this stuff is always clearly used and given/donated to the store, but they grossly overprice it. Case in point: A used coffee grinder for $24.99 when it's new for $18.95 on Amazon or $19.98 at Walmart. The clothes have been really stained, hole-filled, torn and ripped lately. I really hate how bad the store is these days... I went in recently and they were selling a side table that was missing two legs, but still had it priced at $39.99. Look at the pictures I posted. It just makes me so sad since this used to be my favorite thrift store in the area, and...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent termination of Henry Young, who was, without question, one of the most honorable and kind hearted individuals I’ve encountered at your organization.
For years, I have been a loyal customer at Concord/Kannapolis Salvation Army and a large part of that has been because of the way Henry led with integrity, warmth, and compassion. His posture was always calm and professional, his generosity toward those in need was evident, and his respect for customers, regardless of their background or situation was unmatched. He made your store feel like a place of dignity and kindness, which is exactly what The Salvation Army claims to stand for.
To see someone like him let go when he deserved a raise and public recognition is incredibly disheartening. I don’t know the circumstances behind this decision, but from the perspective of a community member and consistent supporter, this feels like a grave mistake.
With respect, I want to be honest in saying I will no longer be shopping at The Salvation Army because of this. I cannot support a decision that dishonors someone who gave so much to his role and made your store a welcoming place for ALL.
I hope this message is received not as an attack, but as a sincere voice of concern and advocacy for someone who showed up with excellence...
Read morePrices on household stuff is too high for used items and many times that area of the store is a train wreck. They do however have good prices on most clothing and good sales. I just got 4 near new brand name T shirts for 50 cents each. Edited 5/24/24...Still too high on household stuff but the clothes were totally nasty. I mean stuff stained with black grease, huge holes, and something crusty and smelled awful.. all with $4 price tags. None of that stuff should ever have been put on a hanger. You clean the furniture but hang this stuff up and expect people to pay for it? Get it together SA!
Edited to add..we went back Thursday and these shoes were for sale. The pic doesn't do them justice as they were even dirtier than this shows. Why would you even throw these out there? It only takes a second to look at something and say hey these are too dirty to sell. And yes there were still clothes out thar looked rough. Nothing...
