Getting my bachelor's in business administration at City Vision allowed me to finish a year faster than I could have at other universities, and nearly for free. I was able to graduate at the age of 19, and I never accumulated any student debt. City Vision is highly flexible and is an excellent opportunity for anyone who needs to get their degrees faster, cheaper, or on a different schedule than at other schools-- even other fully online ones. I was able to utilize almost all of the credits I had earned from AP tests and the other universities I attended, whereas at other schools I could only use half to a third of those credits.
I did notice two downsides to getting my degree at City Vision: lack of prestige and dated curriculum. Since I have only had one job since graduating, I am not sure how the lack of prestige/recognition of a degree from a small online college has effected or will effect my career. To me, however, the time and money I have saved is more than worth it. As for the somewhat dated curriculum in the business classes I took, it was most noticeable in the classes that dealt with online marketing. Class materials made 10 to 15 years ago are fine for many fields, and certainly no different from many other universities, but it is a bit of a letdown in topics that concern the internet. Some of the materials also conveyed what I found to be overly conservative viewpoints. However, City Vision was proactive in asking for my feedback, and they let me know they would take steps to improve the dated curriculum.
Overall, however, City Vision's curriculum fit my learning style like a glove. It was flexible and allowed me the initiative to dig deeply into subjects I was most interested in while giving me a working knowledge of those I didn't choose to focus on. There was less instructor interference and oversight than at schools which I had previously attended, which I greatly appreciated, but the instructors still gave useful and thorough guidance and feedback. One of my favorite opportunities I had at City Vision was creating my own 3 credit hour marketing class, which I then took under the supervision of the university's president, Andrew Sears.
All in all, City Vision allowed me to achieve my academic goals quickly, affordably, and effectively. I'm thankful that I found the university that fit my lifestyle, timeline, budget, and objectives so perfectly. City Vision's flexibility, I believe that thousands of students would find it to...
Read moreCity Vision University was exactly what I needed for my educational journey. As someone working in ministry, I was looking for a program that was flexible, affordable, and practical—and CVU delivered.
By the time I attended City Vision University, I had already completed two master’s degrees at Fuller Seminary. The organization that employs me has a partnership with CVU, and I decided to take advantage of this benefit. I first earned a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management, then an AAS in Christian Ministry & Leadership, and finally, my MBA in Executive Leadership. I can say that CVU wasn't as research based and academically rigorous as Fuller Seminary, but they weren't slouches either.
What drew me to CVU was their commitment to those working with homelessness and addiction—many of their programs are tailored for this world. The 8-week course schedule was ideal, with assignments that built on each other toward a final project. As an experienced student, I also appreciated their use of Populi and Canvas for course management. And of course, affordability sealed the deal.
A few minor drawbacks: the CVU name feels niche rather than academic, though they are fully accredited the name might make some people question on your resume - and it has. Some of the course videos are a bit dated, and I would have liked more elective offerings. But overall, CVU provided a structured, high-quality education that was immediately applicable to my work at Water Street Mission.
If you're looking for a mission-driven, accessible, and practical education, I recommend City Vision University. This journey is more than just getting a degree in your hands, it is about a commitment to lifelong learning and that...
Read moreOverall, a great Christian online university that is still Biblically based with accessible professors. I recently graduated with a graduate certificate in Christian ministry and liked the diversity of courses on the Bible, theology, leadership, and especially the cross-cultural management. The online format is perfect for me working abroad as an engineer in development and it's been a huge encouragement to learn with students from the US and around the world. Being online, I can watch the video lectures and do most assignments on my own schedule, though sometimes the Zoom calls were at awkward hours for those of us in South-East Asia.
The professors were not overly academic but constantly tried to make the material practical and useful to us, got to know each student a bit, and challenged us in our learning. The classes were better structured than other online only classes I have taken. Of course, there are some things that can be improved but the staff and professors were eager for feedback and ways to fix issues and augment the content.
Through City Vision University I think I have grown in my professional skills, deepened my knowledge of the Bible, church history, non-profit workings, and grew closer to Jesus as I walked through the coursework with other dedicated students in a variety of...
