Was really excited to see this new venue when I got tickets for the Jackyl show. I've been to many other concerts in the KC area and let me say this is an excellent addition to the already outstanding market. Starting off, there is a lot of free curbside parking in the area with a number of paid lots withing walking distance, we hit a $10 lot about a block and a half away. Getting in was easy, security was outside checking ID's for drinking age, stamp for yes, 2 black X's for the youngsters. Multiple guards doing pat downs/metal wands so no real holdup there. Ticket check came next, having these duties separated out really sped up the entry process. Inside is well laid out, you first come into a bare area to the left with the main floor ahead, smoking area (outside) to the right and a set of small restrooms just past the entry area as well as a COAT CHECK area, a real Godsend in my honest opinion (I would rather pay someone 5 bucks to watch my swag rather than carrying all my belongings like a common hobo all night!) The main floor was set up as open GA. Sound both and Swag was set off to the West wall keeping it out of the way but still in sight of the stage so you could see the show while in line. There were 3 bars around the floor, which were well staffed and flowing. Another large restroom set into the South West wall kept whatever line may have formed well out of the way. The only downfall I experienced was there is no slope to the floor, so my 10yo son had a hard time seeing the stage, well until we made our way up front. There is a VIP balcony on the North wall which I will defiantly look into next time I attend with the vertically challenged. Beers were $8/each for Boulevard tall boys so not really out of the ballpark pricing. Ample trash cans so you weren't tripping over stuff all night. All in all it is a great venue, given you use a little common concert etiquette of eye contact and "excuse me" when moving around. Will defiantly be back in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLove this venue! Even though it is standing room only GA there isn't a bad place in the room to watch the show. This says a lot considering I am 5'2". Never huge lines at the bathrooms and multiple bars, so generally really quick getting a drink too. Wide selection of alcohol and nice pours. The best part is the sound. Of the several shows I have seen at the Truman KC I have not been disappointed and being industry that is not always an easy feat to accomplish, however they have consistently impressed me each and every time. I would definitely recommend seeing a show here, but beware tickets can and do sell out fast sometimes because it is not a huge space. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star rating would be the parking. I don't enjoy driving around forever trying to find parking. Especially if I am going to be charged by the venue once I have been sent around on a wild goose chase and made to track down a space in one of about 8 different lots. Being told at each lot to go somewhere else even though there are still what appears to be open spaces available. Then walk several blocks back to the venue once I actually locate one they will allow me to park. Also beware! The lot right next to the venue is private parking and they make a pretty penny removing those cars during shows. I have arrived late before and there were literally 4 tow trucks waiting thier turn to cash in on the unaware concert goers. So be sure to look around when u have found a space just to cya and your ride home. Would be super nice to have a valet option. In fact I would welcome paying for that convenience in order to avoid that whole mess in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had my first and last experience at The Truman last night. My husband and I went to see Asking Alexandria. I'm physically disabled, so we felt comfortable knowing I would be able to sit in the handicap section. The first two sets were great. Then Memphis May Fire came on, and that's when the problem started. A woman was hanging over the gate that separated our area from the rest of the crowd. Several times, she sprayed her cold drink over us (my row and the front row). Security was busy with crowdsurfers, so I stood up during the set to let her know that she was getting us wet. She completely ignored me and held her drink behind her back. I returned to my seat, but during the break, she got me wet AGAIN. I tried to tell her she was getting us all wet, and she started screaming in my face that I was harassing her. She called security over. She was drunk and incoherent. They moved our seats up to the front row, but let her stay where she was. During the entire final set, she had one leg hooked over the rail. She was thrashing and not paying attention to anyone else. When one of the guitarists threw a pick into our section, she literally head-dove onto the floor, rolling in the mess she'd made, to find the pick. She was blonde with ( .Y. ), which I assume is the reason she wasn't removed. Worst concert experience ever. I even tried telling her that at rock concerts, we take care of one another. She just screamed at me that she paid to be there, so she could do...
