I went to Clothes Mentor in Katy on May 25th and was very excited to get there after having a wonderful conversation with one of the owners. I had quite a bit of clothing as I recently lost a significant amount of weight. The majority of my clothing was either new or in new condition. When I started to lose weight, it began to drop off so quickly many things I didn't get chance to wear or it had only been worn 1-2 times and went to the cleaners . I also started working from home approximately 4 yrs ago so I don't often have to wear my work outfits. Mixed in with the work wear was also casual clothing and active wear, all of which were in excellent condition. Normally, I give all my clothing to Goodwill or a secondhand thrift store that caters to women who are starting over. On a friend's suggestion, I decided to try and sell a portion this time. Let me be clear I understand, not all items will be purchased, and it also matters what season the resale shop may be looking to address at the time. With this in mind, I had already made arrangements to give the remaining items to Goodwill and my local store was again looking forward to my next haul. I arrived and after being greeted by a woman at the counter I noticed a gentleman listening and going through items. He spoke up to let me know there were others in front of me (which was fine) but he said it in a way that was less than welcoming, almost as if I was not quite relevant. I didn't understand his tone or why he felt compelled to share that kind of energy. At that time, he let me know he was a buyer who would be evaluating my clothing. After leaving for lunch and shopping, I was initially pleased to receive a text offer as it took less time than expected. Upon arrival I was told by the gentleman he was not yet done and the text was sent in error. We loaded one suitcase and left to continue on to the mall. In approximately 15min. I received another text which was odd and I called to see if it was another error. Perhaps asking if I would be willing to wait 15min would have been a better choice than having me to turn around again? When I arrived to retrieve my items and offer, the gentleman told he would the offer was based on the 22 pieces he decided to keep. Again, I was okay with whatever they decided to keep, because normally I just donate. The problem is the condescending tone I detected in the beginning was now in full effect. Not only did he accuse me of having stained items, he questioned the quality of others. I shared with him this was not possible as all my items were either new(with tags) or came directly from the cleaners(again with tags), even some of the athletic wear. He next told me the work slacks were somehow defective. Some nonsense about a zipper. Let me be clear, the name he pronounced incorrectly was Investments which is a line of work slacks made exclusively for Dillard's. They run between $49-$55 per pair and if you work in a professional setting with women , this style is a staple. These pants were newer as they had only been worn twice and dry cleaned. I was okay with what he decided to keep, (which by the way required no explanation), but to then insult the quality of the clothing or make a veiled accusation that I have the character of a person who would attempt to sell stained clothing was incredibly disrespectful. By the way, the items kept, were Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren etc... I accepted payment and left without showing him the disrespect he shared with me. When I arrived at Goodwill later that day, not only were they excited to see me as usual, I went through my items again just in case I did miss a smudge or stain and just as I expected nothing was out of order. I will never have anything good to say about Clothes Mentor and will encourage anyone I know who is looking to sale clothing to find another vendor. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I will be going back to donating only and dealing with individuals who understand the inherent value...
Read moreThis is my second experience buying and selling items at Clothes Mentor in Katy, Texas. My initial encounter with the store was satisfactory, as I was impressed by the customer service. Although I had hoped for a slightly better offer on the items I dropped off, I was content with receiving something in return, especially since I usually donate my clothes to Goodwill.
Encouraged by my first experience, I returned for a second time with a larger haul. I dropped off my items on a Sunday evening and received a helpful reminder via text and phone call on Monday to pick them up. However, my overall experience took a disappointing turn upon entering the store.
Despite several employees working both the floor and the counter, none greeted me when I walked in. As I wandered around, waiting for acknowledgment at the register, it became apparent that no one was attending to customers. It was only after awkwardly hovering around the desk that someone finally acknowledged me. To my dismay, most of the items I brought in were turned down, and I was informed that my clothes needed washing and had an odor.
While I understand the need for cleanliness standards, I was taken aback by the lack of tact in conveying this information. It could have been handled more discreetly rather than embarrassing me in front of others in the store. I am not upset that my items were declined or that they needed laundering, as they might have been stored in my closet for an extended period. However, the absence of tact and tacky customer service has left me disheartened. One employee even went as far as smelling my boot and remarking negatively.
Considering this experience, I am hesitant to return to Clothes Mentor Katy. Improved customer service and a more considerate approach to communicating such matters would greatly enhance the overall experience for customers...
Read moreThis was my first time ever experiencing Clothes Mentor. Upon arrival, all employees had a smug, annoyed look on their faces when I walked in, as if I was bothering them. Once they half-heartedly greeted me, they explained rudely that because they were short-handed, my items would not be sorted until the following day. I made sure that all of my items were freshly laundered and in nice condition. Although I may have missed a blemish here or a small stain there, for the most part, most was like new or new with tags. When I went to leave the employees scoffed at me and my children as if we were not good enough to be in the store. Anyway, the next day, once I received the notification that my offer was ready, I went back with the expectation that they probably would not accept everything, but surely most of it. This time, there were 3 different employees, all middle-aged women who, again, had awful grimaces upon their faces as if I was bothering them. It took about 15 minutes for them to even locate my items. Once located, they had accepted 7 items out of about 50. One of ladies, who was not helping me, decided to chime in without invitation but with much sass and say “I went through your items personally. They were not accepted due to being well-loved, some with an odor, and others just because.” EVERYTHING WAS FRESHLY LAUNDERED. These people are so condescending and rude. They treated me like I was not good enough to be there. They all need to be severely humbled - you aren’t out here saving lives, you’re just reselling clothes. Get over yourselves. I will NEVER be back! Not to sell, not to shop, not to anything! Worst experience EVER. Do better...
