Let me start by saying that I have bought my last 5 vehicles from Dave Smith and was extremely happy with every deal, in fact I have referred 17 people in 12 years to Dave Smith that all purchased trucks there. That all changed and I will never be back and never send one more person to Dave Smith. I put a deposit down on a truck on December 18th 2021. I planned on picking up the truck on the 26th however a snow storm hit and we couldn't make the drive from Missoula to Kellogg. I had to fly out to California for work on the 27th and wasn't able to be back for 3 months at the earliest due to work. So I told them the sell the Truck to the guy that asked to be notified if the deal fell through. The truck sold on the 28th. I called at least 20 times regarding my refund for my refundable deposit. I spoke with the manage 5 times, had my calls screened and sent to his voice mail, left 9 messages and was told on 5 occasions the refund was being processed the next day. The refund finally posted to my account on May 12th. It literally took 5 minutes for them to take my deposit over the phone and it took 5 months to get it refunded. Read moreI will NEVER buy a car from Dave Smith, after I saw how they treat people. My husband and I were traveling through and our oil light came on and so we stopped there (closest town) my husband went in and spoke to the gal working and she told us they have a tech in at 9:00 and if we pulled up, they would take a look. (we offered to pay or whatever was needed) and at 9, the door rolled up and they took another car in to be serviced (okay I get it, that person had an appointment) BUT she could have told us that or come out to tell us. So I checked in and she told me that they could get it in after that oil change (around 9:30) or suggested we check at the other service counter (which we did and that was a longer wait) so we went back to the first place (around the corner) I told her we decided to come back as their wait was shorter. She came over and asked us if we had a dipstick for reading the oil, which we told her yes...after that, they ghosted us, and proceeded to take other cars in and didn't even tell us anything! Needless to say we wasted 2.5 hours waiting and finally went to Osburn and found a nice guy to help us there! ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS TELL US THEY COULDN"T HELP US....instead of string us along and then ghost us! Read moreI filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in an attempt to have a deposit refunded to me. Dave Smith Motors responded to my complaint with the following reply: "After going through Mr. Bob Zawaski's file...It is clear that the customer did not sign the non-refundable deposit for order form that the salesperson is required to have in a customers file.
Mr. Zawaski's file will now go to our accounting department, and a $1000 check will be mailed out and his credit card will be refunded $1000 as well.
Hopefully Mr. Zawaski will not let one persons actions reflect poorly on our entire company".
Shortly thereafter they sent a credit for the charge portion only to pull it back and trigger the dispute process between Dave Smith Motors and my Bank. My Bank was able to credit my account but it took nearly a month to do so. They never sent the check as promised in their reply to the BBB. It's my opinion, based on this experience, that they sent the initial credit as an act of deception in order to show a satisfactory resolution to the BBB complaint. It's been almost 2 months since the check was promised. My mistake was trusting that Dave Smith Motors would make good on their word and that's clearly not the case.
