Run Hill State Natural Area — Local services in Kill Devil Hills

Not bad - lots of wide open sand dunes with a few scrub trees, and maritime forest bordering. Kind of like Jockeys Ridge without all the people. No marked trails, which you shouldn't expect in a natural area anyway, but it's easy to find your way through the dunes. If you stick to the edges near the forest, you'll have the benefit of some shade, well trodden paths, plus the opportunity to find wildlife trails down into the marsh.

Be careful, hiking up and down dunes can be more strenuous...

It's basically a good walk around sand dunes and eventually you reach a cliff and you see the water...you can see the Kitty Hawk monument while standing...
